Delivered from Sodom. The angels then informed Lot that the outcry against the inhabitants of Sodom had grown loud before Jehovah and that they had been sent to destroy the city. As instructed, Lot warned his prospective sons-in-law, who evidently were intending to take his daughters as wives but had not yet done so. (Compare Ge 19:8, 14.) However, his sons-in-law did not heed his words. (Ge 19:12-14) At dawn the two angels urged prompt departure, hastening it by seizing the hands of Lot, his wife, and his two daughters. In keeping with Lot’s request, the angels permitted him to flee to the nearby city of Zoar. After Lot arrived there, Jehovah brought fiery destruction upon Sodom and Gomorrah. However, Lot’s wife (who is unnamed in the Scriptures) disobediently “began to look around from behind him,” perhaps with longing for the things left behind. For doing so, “she became a pillar of salt.”—Ge 19:15-26.

They caused their father unwittingly to have sexual relations with them while he was under the influence of wine. This they did to preserve offspring from their father. As a result, each daughter had a son, from whom the Moabites and the Ammonites descended.—Ge 19:30-38, ftn; De 2:9, 19.

One thing I like about the bible is the fact that it does not try to spin actual events. They are laid out there for all to see human nature, fears, faults, dishonest people, just the bare facts.

The Bible does not hide the faults of most of the people in there. If this was just written by men with no direction by God, most humans would omit the bad things about themselves. That is normal human nature as in the history of many humans that were very bad in many ways, but in the history that was written under their direction shows them in a much better light then they should have been.
But the things written in the Bible had to be from God as this little fact shows.

So Lot's two daughters were without mates forever? Are all the males and females in the word perish and the only one remaining were them and their father? Or this is one of many nonsense, mind puzzling, attack on common sense from the book?

Did Jehovah condone Lot’s getting drunk and fathering sons by his two daughters?
Jehovah condones neither incest nor drunkenness. (Leviticus 18:6, 7, 29; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10) Moreover, Abraham’s nephew Lot deplored the “lawless deeds” of Sodom’s inhabitants and evidently grieved over the wrong conduct in which he himself got involved, for the Examiner of hearts viewed him as “righteous.” (2 Peter 2:8) The very fact that Lot’s daughters got him intoxicated suggests that they realized he would not consent to having sexual relations with them while he was sober. But as aliens in the land, his daughters felt that this was the only way to prevent the extinction of Lot’s family. The account is in the Bible not to arouse erotic thoughts but to reveal the relationship of the Moabites and the Ammonites to Abraham’s descendants, the Israelites.

You guys can of course claim that some third-party hearsay is 'fact', but that doesn't actually make it a fact. To be honest, I'm both amazed and amused to find so many people who take the old testament as a literal record. You do know you further reduce the credibility of the various christian faiths, don't you?

Yes, we all see the human nature but that doesn't matter because we know the human nature with it's faults. But what you refuse to admit is that the God's nature from the OT is exactly the same. Where's the justice in turning into a pile of salt one's wife because she looks back at the village where she lived, but leaves unpunished two loose daughters which drunk their father and make sex with him. And don't give me "God has mysterious ways" crap.

It was my understanding that different gospels gave two different lineages. But some Christians can explain away anything. I must note though that only a small minority of Christians believe every word in the Bible is indisputable fact.

There are two genealogies offered, one for Mary and one for Joseph. The one for Joseph was provided to substantiate the fact that Joseph could not have been the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, owing to the curse that was on Jechoniah, who was in Joseph's lineage.

Mary's lineage proves her pedigree and rightful place of aristocracy, an acceptable vessel for His birth.

You're clearly not Jewish, are you Freaky - how do you cope with all the "god's chosen people" stuff in the OT?
