Am I going to Hell for not being circumsized? Why was circumcision originally used to signify a covenant with God?

There is only one reason why you would go to hell. And that is rejecting God's provision for the remission of sin, and that is Jesus.

God instituted the covenant of circumcision for the purpose of separating Abraham from the rest of humanity, there by creating for himself,(God), a family that eventually became a nation.

Remember that God called Abraham after He scattered the human race at the tower of Babel. And the reason, or part of the reason for doing that was because they had failed to obey God's command to fill the earth. Instead they erected a tower to symbolize their unity and rejection of God's sovereign claim over his creation.

I may be a little off, but that is basically it.

Wy circumcision and not... say, a tattoo, scarification or some other symbol... did it really have to be foreskin? Come on, did God chuckle to himself when he said to one of the angels,"Hey, watch this, I'm going to get them to cut off part of their penis, this is going to be hilarious!" You know He laughed his ass off.

That's a good question, and at first I wasn't sure ,but then I remembered.

This is where it gets spiritual. It has to do with the difference between the circumcision made with hands and the circumcision made without hands. The first being a sign. Look at Colossians 2:11

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

This is just one of a number of references that points to a larger context on this subject.

I'm thinking it might be rabies.

Sound familiar?

"Soon after, the symptoms expand to cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, paranoia, hallucinations, progressing to delirium. "

And, of course,

"the few humans who are known to have survived the disease were all left with severe brain damage,"

If this isn't religion, I don't know what is.

Sounds more and more like rabies all the time...

I'm laughing hysterically. I'm sure this must be the last stage. Is there no cure.

You know I have a sense of humor. I think I'll let it show more often.

But seriously, what I was saying makes perfect sense if you look at it from a biblical perspective. Either you believe it or not!

There was once a very old rabbi. Throughout his long career as a rabbi he had performed many circumcisions. When he began doing this he decided he would collect and keep the foreskins. His dresser drawer was full of them. So he decided to take them to the local tanner and have him make something out of them. The tanner said come back in two weeks and hopefully I will have something to show for all your years of signifying the covenant.

The rabbi returned two weeks later and the tanner brought out a little pouch he had made. The rabbi was furious. "You mean to tell me after 60 years of performing this sacred task this is all I have to show for it? The tanner said, "relax, just stroke and rub it and it will turn into a suitcase."

Okay? So you cut off the flesh to represent the removal of sins from the flesh? Still... the penis? Why not a fingernail or even my little toe? Does the ol' johnson really need to get wacked... er, cut off I mean?
