The part about the "male member" is especially a howler; that people actually used to take this stuff seriously and today we have calls to return religion to schools makes me want to dump it all into the toilet and flush thrice, once for each godhead. A disgusting, shameful page in our history.

Actually no, but most were. There's a passage in the book about a witch who looked at the face of the inquisitor first and besmitten him into releasing all charges. From that day forth the inquisitor was to always have the first look. So much so that witches were lead into the chambers backwards.
It's a glorious read for any who love the study of history.
