    You still have rules.

The rule now is that you must have a relationship with Jesus.

How did I escape from religion...Maybe the excessively boring Good News translation I had...or the excruciating tedium of church...I'm a seeking type of person and I soon reached the conclusion that organised religion is not for me. Plus I can't bring myself to believe that One religion is Right. The religious teachings that make the most sense indicate that religion is superfluous, sentiment aside.

Nice universal statement. Do you think Isaac Newton was an idiot?

I believe times were quite quite different then than now. You and I both know that. It is unfair to judge people who lived in different times and under different conditions using todays standards.

Perhaps in some respects he was:

Nope, I don;t believe all people who are religious are idiots. I just think that your choice of rebutal was not very good. Maybe had you used someone more contemporary, like Einstein, who could be judged more fairly by todays standards.

I think people believe in religion for many reasons, for some it is a prop when they need help, for some they were indocternated as children, others find it for different reasons. To say that a person is stupid simply because they believe in religion, is, in itself, stupid. Look at the number of things that we believe in every day with little real proof. We believe the moon orbits the earth and the earth the sun, and that other planets exist and that it really is your last doughnut before you start that diet...

Saying all that though, I don;t believe in religion of any type.

Fine then. You're welcome to believe/not believe in anything you like; just because one believes in the [scientifically] unprovable, does not detract from one's intelligence - its a matter of worldview.

In what way are today's standards of idiocy different from the past?
