back to Rugby, Mr Carrobie is a Scotland fan. He has already seen his team mullered by the Boks, awaits the same fate from Oz this weekend!
What a great tour so far. Obviously easier if you are a South African. AB de Villiers is a monster!
We really are doing very well now.
2nd time SA has had 3 centurions in an ODI innings, in India no less. The only team to have done this.
I thought that surely this was India's largest defeat ever. I forgot about Jayasuriya, Vaas and Murali in their heyday... http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65900.html
6th time scoring 400+, the most by any nation. Irritatingly we just can't get to the number 1 spot that SL made against the Dutch... Every time we look like passing it, ABD goes out softly while absolutely dominating the opposition. Get some BMT AB!
I see South Africans are now the fastest run getters to 1000 runs up to 8000 runs in ODIs. Funnily enough the fastest to 1000 there are 4 players who did it in 21 innings, 3 of them SA born...

Series wins in T20s and ODIs. Now onto the REAL test.
The rugby is a wash, let's watch the Proteas dominate.

another little fact from the excellent cricinfo site ~ last weekend's runfest by SA was only the 3rd time EVER that 2 century makers in an ODI innings didnt bat together, AB deV entering towards the end and smashing a quick century.
The last time? This Summer for England when Joss Buttler came in late vs NZ after Joe Root was out, and similarly hacked a v quick 100. The same Joss Buttler who is very likely to be dropped for the final Test vs Pakistan this weekend.
Which is my convoluted way of saying that ODI's are ok as a bit of fun. The Tests are, by definition, the real 'test'.

It's an irritation, for sure.
But I'm happy with being rated the best side, if we never win a trophy.
anyways, no doubt SA are/were a great Test playing side. The 'battle for #1' three yrs ago when you came over here saw you dominate. Amla especially v much in form.
Be interesting to see how you are without Smith later in the Winter. Thought he was a truly great, slightly underated player. have some great middle order batters with AB, Amla, new guy. Just think your openers MAY be slightly vulnerable.
Steyn is a truly , all time great bowler ~ but a little long in the tooth? Over here, we are amazed at Philanderer's success ~ he was v v ordinary as a County bowler. Morne also a little past it?
Think you are favourites at home though!

Faf is developing well and AB and Amla are just absolute class.
Both openers have very good first class careers and just need the backing from the selectors. I also like that they both bring an extra bowling option.
Steyn is getting past his prime for sure, but when he gets his teeth into a batting lineup and the ball reverse swings, he is still almost unplayable.
Philander is our Shaun Pollock. Consistent line and length and if the pitch has something in it, he is very dangerous.
Morkel has some fire left in him still. I don't think he will ever be considered a great bowler, but as with Philander, when he gets a nice green mamba pitch, he can also be unplayable with his pace and bounce.
We do have Kyle Abbott and Kagiso Rabada on the sidelines now and both look very promising as replacements.

You sure Van Zyl is a Test opener. And your new keeper (Vilas?) making many mistakes behind and not scoring runs up front...
maybe you will win
Originally posted by st dominics previewNot sure about Vilas. He's a solid first classer, but maybe not a test player. Stiaan is solid and will be class in future.

It's just the gravel roads the Indians have prepared. Nobody has seemed to be able to get in, not even the seasoned Indian top order, so you can't judge them on these performances.
It's actually a disgrace that these pitches are allowed, where the toss basically decides the game, but hey, the BCCI owns world cricket. Thou shalt not criticize Indian cricket.

SA just been rolled over for just over 100 in the latest Test, and it isn't , apparently, an awful pitch.
See they swapped an opener, but stuck with the WK. Faf DP's tumbling average must also be a worry?
India prepared 3 horrible pitches and one barely passable one in the last test, loaded their side with decent spinners, and won 4/4 tosses.
So this tour doesn't really reflect anything, except that the Proteas cannot play 'park cricket' very well.

that's the sort of cricket to bring the fans back to Test cricket 😉

Now for England at home.
They recently got wacked by whoever, and now they eye the Proteas as easy prey.
Can the Proteas do it this time? Broad and Root seems very good. 😉
We still have Steyn and Philander out on injury.
