I'm hoping the attitude of 'we should be top by rights' has been firmly quashed from the national team psyche now, and with Capello in charge, we could have a passionate man at the helm to give the players a bl**dy good bollocking if need be.

i really think they should give it to o'neil but let him finish the season with villa, think he would take it if they offered that.

they finally do well enough to get a decent seed and get landed with Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and San Marino

I don't know if Capello would get impatient if Brian Barwick (http://www.a-1video.com/Oliver%20Hardy%20c.u..gif) drags the process out - he seems to be interested at the moment. I think he'd be in for a rough ride with the press though - I don't think he's the type to be diplomatic with journos if a bad result comes along, but don't know for sure.

I think we'll have to change our attitude and take this group much more seriously than we did the one for the Euro. Sweden's a tough cookie and only one of the teams is insured to go through...

When I read yopur post, I was convinced that you were wrong and when I went to check I was amazed to find that you are indeed right, only one team qualifies! The eight best runners-up of the 9 groups enter a two-leg play-off to decide the remaining four qualifying teams.

This puts a completely different look on the groups to what I first thought (i.e. that the top 2 teams qualified)
