in this thread, each poster will list one of the myriad of excuses English football fans will use to explain away their failure to progress out of the group stage of this years cup.

Example: "Capello isn't a good enough coach"

they'll still get out of their group by beating slovenia

    slovenia have 4 points
    algeria has 1 point
    usa has 2 points
    england has 2 points

england wins they go to 5 points and slovenia stay on 4. Algeria can only get up to 4 max so a win for england means they go through.

I really enjoyed the usa - slovenia match the other one was total pants

    I meant: Why explain?

    Not: Why?, explain.

No excuses necessary. If they don't get out of the group (for the first time since 1958 I hear) it's because they didn't play well enough.

Finally you've come around and offered sober analysis. England is crap and toast all in one. Could not even scare the bird perched on back of Algeria net! How'r they gonna scare Slovenians?

the bird joke is a good one.

honestly, I usually love goading the english fans, but it has now gotten so bad that I feel sorry for our long-time allies.

Time to root for the underdog, I think.

    Go England !!!!

Excuses will inevitably be in abundance when someone asks for them....
