I was just reading a story about Appiah, I believe, who is planning on joining an English club in the next week. The transfer window doesn't apply to him, because he is a free agent.
I wonder would clubs be fined if they conducted their emergency transfers outside the window like this.
Clubs agree fee for player, player agrees with current club that he will buy out his contract (for the amount of the transfer) with just a token sum due immediately. Then, once the player has achieved his free agent status, sign with the purchasing club, who pay him the transfer fee as part of the signing on fee, which he then uses to pay his former club.
Intricate, I know, but illegal?
