Tournament 13577

Four players still in the running. Seems nobody is even interested any more. 🙁

I'm guessing you mean it's dragging on a little...who's the favourite anyway ??

I must say that I was 'pulling' for Elgallo, I'd imagine you also...sadly that is \ was plainly not ever going to be possible...

wgt2000 is going to win on time. The game is drawn, except for the clock... Brodaty has put himself on vacation, but as soon as the vacation flag lifts he'll be timed out. So wgt2000 just needs to be patient-he'll win on time and he'll top chucker even with chucker beating lute4...

Can't he claim a draw based on insufficient material. He can't be mated by a knight and a King.

Also, at least I believe in FIDE rules, even if one times out, it is still a draw if there is no possibility for the opponent to win (i.e. insufficient material).

I'm not sure how the rules would apply (perhaps someone can enlighten us). There is still a pawn on the board, so technically there is sufficient material to win, although anyone with any sense can see what wgt2000 is doing. He won't take the pawn I suspect and will just wait to claim a win on time.

Brodaty posted in the "help" forum about this. I can't believe that this can be true. To me it looks like a K vs. K position can be achieved and thena draw can be claimed. As I am only a patzer this certainly can't count as "outside help"

I 'think' it's lost anyway with 60 \ 0 Championship games...but, like yourself, I made more notes over in 'help'...also, I believe it's the '50 move rule' that applies.

Edit: Here Thread 150106

Well, the game has been drawn, so no more concerns about fair play.

This is just my opinion, but I don;t think we could infer that this game would have concluded in an unfair manner had it not finished a draw. Both players follow the same rules and both players start with the same timebank...'wqt2008' didn't HAVE to accept the offer, and given the fact that he may well lose The Championship by doing so, I personally think he was very sporting to actually have accepted the draw.. ?
