many players will succeed in the mate EVERY time ... it is not that hard ...
then you have an endless series of rounds only to be won by timeout ...
i do encourage interest in the topic ... and play of the position ... but i hope russ never makes such a tournam ...[text shortened]... chess has many more unfathomable yet simple endgame positions ... with only 2 or 3 pieces each.
Read the first post:
Everyone who participates will play a game with the B+N+K vs me.
...
Everyone is allowed to participate, but I'll decide who's the winner based on the rating of the person and how much help has been asked by him/her.
It'd be pretty stupid to have this held in the normal RHP tournament type, which is you play a game with white and black vs. someone, because that indeed would never end.
Also the endgame isn't that simple. At least, it's hard for quite some people - and the main point of the tournament is to let them learn how to do it.
The BIG plus is that I'm practicing the movement of the Bishop and the Knight in an endgame.
Finding a way how I can let them work together without one piece standing in the way of the other.
And to be honoust I find it very difficult, so I want to thank schakuhr (again) for this oppertonity!!

If it encourages everybody to read the resources provided and learn the opening, then its a great idea and the concept of it will have worked.
B+N+K mate is an advanced, but basic mating pattern. There are certain rules to follow to get it done. Its just a case of learning those rules and becoming efficient in them.
When somebody who only learned the mating pattern because of this tournament achieves it OTB, I'm sure they'll remember why they know the pattern.

I haven't played this endgame before, but I reckon I would not find it easy (without going through the learning process). I think this is an excellent way to learn because we will all be going through the same experience so we can also help each other too (obvioulsy not during an ongoing game but I would love someone to tell me how and why I went wrong afterwards. please sign me up for it
