underrated ?

In a banded tournament, Tournament 10706 ,why do I suddenly find that I am playing against opponents 200+ ratings points higher than myself. (more than one in this tournament).

Nothing curious about that.

At the start of that tournament (nov.2010) all players had a rating within the band, otherwise the computer wouldn't allow them to enter.

After the start, a lot of your opponents improved and gained over 200 points.

In some banded longhaul tournaments the differences after 3 rounds are much bigger, as these tournaments can last for 4 or 5 years...

In addition look at the ratings for the round 1 participants. At the tim e I write this NONE is in the correct band (1300-1325), but some improved (and advanced logically) and some lost points. Ratings fluctuate in that band by 100 points in a month easily (my rating oscillates in about the range of 1200-1400) so don't be too critical.
