Two categories: actors and actresses.

Who would you have awarded three Oscars to [to date] and for what films?

[Leave Daniel Day-Lewis out, he's won his three (so far) and leave Katharine Hepburn out of it too, she's already won four].

It has to be for what can credibly described as the leading role.

Morgan Freeman - Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy and Invictus, for which he was nominated but never won!

Category - Actor who only received one Oscar, and for the wrong film.. 😉

I can only think of one actor and one film at the moment - Leonardo di Caprio for the film Blood Diamonds. He lost to Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland. They were both outstanding but Leonardo is... Leonardo - an amazing actor.

I'll be back if I may...

Heath Ledger actor on brokeback mountain and Jake Gyllenhaal actress also on brokeback mountain.

This is a timeless example of quality entertainment for the whole family reinforcing social values that so far, even the boy scouts are pale in comparison.

Next time you see the marlboro man you might ask yourself if he smokes poles between smoking cigarettes.

I am sure FMF can loan you his copy of this movie if you can not find it near you!!!

The first of these remains my (not very inspired) choice of greatest screen performance of all time.

Robert Duvall

The Great Santini
Tender Mercies
The Apostle

Liv Ullmann

Would need to see more of her films to pick 3, but she's been outstanding in everything I have seen.

I think The Emigrants by Jan Troell was her best film.

Thanks for the tip.

I looked to see if my library had it and they don't. For that matter, I couldn't find where it's even available on DVD.

Any others that you'd recommend?

I really would like you to see The Emigrants - the story about some of the families that left Sweden in poverty and for religious reasons to find a new place in America - the land where everything was possible. The writer, Wilhelm Moberg, had a hard time interviewing their relatives in America, as the Swedish church tried to stop him.

Other than that film, maybe you can find something here:

"Scener ur ett äktenskap - Scenes from a marriage"

This was a mini TV-series - perhaps you can trace it, it is very good.
