Here are a few films that deal with the American Dream to varying degrees of grittiness that come to mind:

    Glengarry Glen Ross

    Midnight Cowboy

    Big Night

Born On The 4th of July

    Scarface

    Any more suggestions?

What do you actually mean, "deals with the american dream"? In Midnight Cowboy a naive cowboy goes to the big city dreaming of being a hustler, he meets and hangs out with mangy low-life bum, has his illusions shattered, gets ripped-off, is introduced to drugs and perverts, loses everything and runs away on a greyhound bus on which his friend pisses himself and dies. Its a great movie, it also beats the crap out of the american dream in my opinion.
    How about The Stepford Wives????

to be fair, he did say 'deal with', and not 'celebrate' the American dream.

but i noticed that the title of his thread is "propagating the american dream" whereas he gave it a different spin within the text of his statement, tricky huh ?
