Hip-Hop artist M.I.A. has released a video for the first single "Born Free".

It can be seen here. It is extremely NSFW and contains graphic images:

It has stirred plenty of controversy and discussion. Clearly, the artist knows how to play the publicity game. I am wondering what people's opinions of the video are.

Myself, I find it completely over-the-top and I'm struggling to understand the so-called political statement being made. The song, however, is fantastic.

I think everybody should base their political opinions on what some musicians say.

My opinions are mostly based on these guys:

Before we get into that discussion - what do you think of the video?

Haven't seen it yet (NSFW) but I already imagine my answer is very likely a shrug. Just treat it like horror movies in terms of broadcasting times.

Interesting... all the people that were rounded up were gingers.

This song is pretty genre-bending, that's for sure...

The song is meh and for all the hype the video is as shocking as Caged Heat.

You'd make a great punchline drum roll.

There is a politcal statemente being made in here? I didn't get it too.

Edit: I don't think that the song is fantastic, but it does blend with the images being displayed in a fantastic way.

I wonder how much money MIA had to pay the band Suicide for using Suicide's music to "Johnny"

(The rolling stones had to pay KD land about a million for using the sound to KD's "Constant Craving" in the stone's "Anybody seen my baby" song.)
