Miles Davis "The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965" (December 22)

Remarkably explorative and raw and unlike anything I've heard from Miles. Shorter is especially fascinating.

What have you been listening to by Sonny?

The latest I have is "This is What I Do", but it doesn't seem to hold up well against his recordings from the mid-50s thru the mid-60's.

No but it's still better than most tenor that I hear today. I can still hear his voice as it were.

Don't get me wrong. Sonny is one of my all-time favorite tenors.

I was mostly interested in finding out which of his later albums that you've found "choice". I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that a couple of gems have flown under my radar.

The studio ones have their moments this past decade, but although I haven't yet heard them, the 9-11 concert and another live release (road shows?) would probably be the best bet. Or just listen ti Colossus or Tenor Madness.

Okay thanks.

He set the bar so ridiculously high with those classic albums and others 🙂
