Moundsee Variations VI - Paul Bley. This is an enchanting and peculiar album.

I was listening to "Solo in Mondsee" just a couple of weeks ago. All things considered, Bley is probably my favorite living pianist. What do you find "peculiar" about the album?

Detour Ahead from Waltz With Betty - Bill Evans Trio (But most of you know that).

I'm thinking "Debby" is going to be none to pleased about this. 🙂
Ouch, you got me good.

It's hard for me to wrap my arms around that Bley recording. Tough to hearwhere the structure ends and improvisation begins.

I saw Spaulding play in concert with Joe Lovanao a month or so ago. She is an electrifying musician.

You know, I don't think I've ever come across anything where Bley explains the strategies he employs with open improvisation. It might be interesting.

I love Charlie Parker.

Dave Brubeck's okay for a modern group.

Glenn Miller was the best of the big band era while Benny Goodman/Artie Shaw were the best of the swing era.
