If England has 70 million people then the world of 6 billion at the same standards of health care would cost the world 7 odd trillion pounds per year. Just dont fight as many Iraqi wars and smack down the funding to all those military industrials and America alone could afford the whole world's NHS bill.

Think with all the peace and goodwill that would flow how she then can really exploit all of her new found friend's resources. Its a win win for common sense.

actually the cost for funding world health would be significantly lower than that, as many 3rd world countries have a much cheaper scale, and costs are a fraction of what they are in developed nations.

It is an immense amount of $, but I'm not sure you can put a price on knowledge--especially if there's a possibility that said knowledge might prove to feed, cure, or otherwise save countless lives.

On the other hand, I AM sure that you canNOT put a price on even one human life, so if I were Earth's benevolent dictator/despot, I'd have to decree the money be spent first to feed the hungry minions...then we could work on some big time physics. 🙂

You socialists are so naive. First off, the cost of the war in Iraq has not increased the Defense Department's budget any more than it usually is: between 4% and 8%, over the last 40 years. Secondly, if there were such a thing as a world NHS, then where would Canadians go to deliver the babies or to get cancer treatment or get MRIs? Where would the new drugs come from since the rest of the world is piggybacking on the R&D of the good ol' USA? Obviously, you haven't thought this thing through, have you? And when the goddamned United Nations tells me I have to pay taxes for a worldwide NHS, that's the day I stop working and kick back like redmike and all you other socialists. You should read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" if you want to see how this all ends.

I keep forgetting you don't read up on anything happening outside of your borders.

Its a pity. Its not to late though, you could still benefit from an adult education, but silly me, your country probably would'nt help you get that.

Your figures are way off. Military spending takes up over 40% of the US budget, probably over 50%.

Benefit "from?" Hell, I give the adult education around here. For example:

Incorrect: Its a pity.
Correct: It's a pity.

Incorrect: Its not to late though...
Correct: It's not too late though...

Incorrect: ...your country probably would'nt help you get that.
Correct: ...your country probably wouldn't help you get that.

That's like saying: "You should swallow a liter of salt water to see how it tastes."

Atlas Shrugged is utter crap.
Ayn Rand has her head so far up her arse she wouldn't recognise a rational being if it used her as a tennis ball.

Maybe in your hamburger universe, but in the real one, Ayn Rand matters.

I absolutly agree with you. Electricity would not have been decovered if it wasn't for investigations and curiousity and money spent- but even so although it helps us live a more comfy life and allows for microwaves to quickly heat our food- it hasn't provided the starving with food. If only they people who are making the decisions agreed with us! If the world can see how important it is that everyone is fed why can't the scientists?! Perhaps they think it can't be done or they are disapointed with the way well indended monsy went on war.

And why should America pay for the world's health care? What would we get in return?

Best case: warm fuzzy feeling
Worst case: more insults and assertions of "health care imperialism"

Even if we did play that fantasy scenario through, you know what would happen? The cost of health care would increase exponentially -- you'd be talking 700 trillion in a few years. The cost of providing anything "for free", unless the thing has no value at all, will go up. Sure as the turning of the earth.

Then what?

You know you've won an argument when the other side doesn't go after your argument, but instead launches meaningless ad hominem attacks at you.

Nice going, DSR.
