Let's see ...

"In this Forum ..I've observed a common defence employed by Americans against Europeans mouthing off about the USA's current political karma (Bush et al): the observation that if it hadn't been for the USA, they'd all be speaking German now--suggesting that the critical moment of WW2 was the USA's decision to get involved."

.. in which case you should not be disappointed in my reply.

If you really wanted to discuss the article from the website you quoted you wouldn't need to bring in the slur about Americans and a "common defense" would you? Bush didn't have anything to do with WWII did he? Yet you got him involved too.

Your post IS an invitation to a flame-war isn't it?

"common defense", "political karma (Bush et al)", "speaking German" .. all insults demeaning to Americans.
.................
If I misunderstood, i'll aploogise, but 1st i'll ask you to break down that 1st paragraph (with or without "In this Forum"😉 for me and explain how I should not be insulted as an American.

Heresy? Heck, that's what I was taught as a child.

In the light of this article, would it not be more accurate to say that if it hadn't been for Hitler, we--Americans included--would all be speaking Russian?
Simply, no.

Yeah, you're right.
I couldn't agree more.
We should have consintrated our manpower on the Japs and dropped the A-bombs on Europe .. Paris would have been a good starting point
It really was a waste of American blood to join in against Hitler .. and the Marshall Plan! .. what a waste of money that was!
Rebuild your enemy .. what a concept .. we should ...[text shortened]... s and they don't want us intruding.

Good luck in your quest to bitchslap America.
Semper Fi
It's a small thing, but could I ask that when ranting, semi-literate Americans refer pejoratively to 'Europe' (with respect to how much 'Europe' hates America and how America saved the craven 'Europeans' in WW2), they bear in mind that Britain is a part of Europe?

Perhaps 'mainland Europe' would suffice?

Is there a high 'consintration' of poor English grammar usage in South Africa? If so, they must be exporting the guilty parties to California...

Wow. Witty retort dude!

Not everyone 'pidgon-holes' people on where they come from. Please don't try to insult my country - it absolutely does not affect me.
All you probably know about SA is CNN catchphrases like 'apartheid' and 'Nelson Mandela'.

That's probably true of most parts of the world (not the 'apartheid'/'Mandela' bit).

Ok, gentlemen, let us get back to the subject of the thread, please! Let's quit bashing each other fellow 'mericans, Euros (Brits included), and Afrikanders. We all love each other deep-down for sure, right?I've seen piss-poor grammar and misspelling from both sides of the Atlantic; it's not uniquely American...heck, I'm even guilty of it sometimes...can you believe that?....didn't think so...

Yo, Crowley, who's the chick busting her ass on the treadmill on your profile....that's funny as $hit....😀
