Did you measure how many attacks on life and property have been deterred?

The vid from the OP should shared wide among criminals, it's not that the shop owner/manager does have a gun, it's that they might.
Now they know to target big chain businesses with absentee capitalist owners who won’t be there defending their businesses. Hooray!

Guns never defended anyone.

The best thing a gun can do is kill someone else as well.
Really?
Ask the 80-year-old in the video what he thinks about that claim.

...said the guy from a country that needed American guns to save his ass from the Nazis in WW2. 🙄

If guns never defended anyone then why do cops bother carrying them around?

Try living in the states before you make ridiculous statements like "guns never defended anyone" ...🙄

That's the point of it. You defend someone you care about (including yourself), someone innocent from someone intent in doing harm. Someone you can't stop except through firing some metal at high speeds directly through them.

A 60kg woman has no chance of defending herself from an abusive 120kg ex boyfriend who ignores the restraining order she has against him (which often times the authorities don't enforce properly anyway). She could however get herself a gun and give herself an extra chance.

Giving guns instantly to every yahoo wanting one is ridiculous. Saying guns could have no use in self defense is the other extreme and equally ridiculous

Guns are tools. Guns have a purpose. You don't get rid of guns, you learn how to utilize them properly. Like any other tool.
Sure, working towards a society that doesn't need guns is admirable. Let me know how that's coming along in 20 or so years

Shallow is just trolling, cut him loose. We could bring up all the armed guards of notables, celebs, legislators, and also my daughter who carries, in case she has to shoot a cretin. The ShallowBlues of the world are very shallow minded. Cut him loose.

Guns are generally not used for self-defense. They are used to kill. Gun advocates generally create specific scenarios where guns seem like a good idea while ignoring that they do far more harm than good.

The woman in your scenario is dead if the boyfriend has a gun. A bad guy's gun cancels out a victim's gun. And she'd have to being strapped at all times just in case the boyfriend goes on the attack: meaning it has to be when she's washing dishes, doing laundry, watching TV., taking a shower, etc. Otherwise, the gun she can't get to is useless. And it would be highly unlikely that bad boyfriend doesn't know where the guns are kept and wouldn't get to it first.

The romanticized notion of guns taking out would-be bad guys is more storybook than reality. The reality is that guns empower people to become those very bad guys that need to be stopped.

While I'm not against firearms for self defense, all countries are better off when they're completely banned.

1. Wrong, and you know that.

2. To kill people. If police guns defended anyone, many children in Uvalde would still be alive.

3. Try living in a civilised country before concluding that guns are necessary.

Except that statistics do show that you're much more likely to kill someone innocent - and that most often someone you care about, including yourself - than an external threat. After all, who is more likely to be focused on shooting at sight, the guy who's already trying to do harm, or the guy who's unsuspectingly going about his daily business?

By using guns for defence, you're replacing a minor external threat with a major internal one. And all statistics bear this out, incidents like the one in this thread notwithstanding. For every shopkeeper shooting a burglar, there are several being shot by some over-eager bystander, or themselves.
