What a reminder of how the single most important thing in politics gets lost: people.
We care our military but not the soldiers. We spent countless dollars on military but the VA is in shambles. We care more about the "never forget catchphrase" than the individuals it's meant to embody.
U.S. politics is a business rather than a passion.
@wolfgang59 saidExcellent thread saw a clip on the news this morning thanks for the link.
WTF
How is this even possible?
Jon Stewart's speech to Congreess.

I don’t think it’ll get much traction here though due to the non partisan nature of the issue, it seems both sides of congress are being aholes on this one. But I hope the next politician who tries to get a photo op with NY first responders comes away with spittle on their face.

"I was just curious how many democrats voted against the Zadroga act. Google provided: 4. Out of both Senate and House.
At least in this regard, republicans and democrats are not alike and one is clearly better than the other. 4 out of a very long list of senators and representatives.

so no, it doesn't seem democrats are anywhere near as disgusting as republicans on this issue.
@zahlanzi saidIt’s been going on for a while now. I take it the Obama Whitehouse couldn’t have used an executive order as with AHC act.

If it can shown that it’s been just the Republicans that have kicked this political football back into the long grass then perhaps it will get some traction.
@kevcvs57 saidwhen you have the house constantly passing bills that get stuck in Mitch's Senate because americans have a fuked up system, i would blame Republicans, yes. Americans don't seem to care though.

All governments screw up and politicians are the worst people to lead us.
I 'm thinking this situation is simialr to the Ghurka Justice Campaign in England.
A matter of conscience and doing what is right.
It took a while in UK. But eventually right succeeded.
The US government seems so lethargic in comparison.

Problem solved, everyone happy.
@wajoma saidBit late for that when your employment has made you unemployable due to ill health or cremation.
Not happy with your conditions of employment, find other employment.

As for the Gurkha issue that was a clear case of racism and rectified by a celebrity keeping it in the public eye and a general public whose sense of decency finally pushed the government into doing what they should have done in the first place.
I hope Jon Stewart achieves the same success.
