I would say that conservatives don't necessarily admire and support Putin.
They admire and support Trump.
And they want any narrative around Russia to go away before 2024 campaign gets rolling.
Trump will have 2 big anchors in 2024.
COVID and Russia.
COVID may be in the rearview mirror by then.
Russia may be front and center.
Letting Putin have what he wants may end the war.
