The gist of it is that Trump's behaviour makes no sense so long as you assume he is a grown-up, but when you see him as a 6-yr. old spoilt brat everything snaps into focus. He knows he lost the election; he refuses to acknowledge it publicly because he's still smarting over doubts cast upon his 2016 victory (Russian meddling, Mueller Report, Clinton actually got more votes, etc.). He's dragging out legal challenges to the 2020 election not because he really thinks he can flip the result, but simply out of spite. It's an utterly childish temper tantrum, lashing out in all directions (firing people for speaking truth to power, etc.). Trump cares not an iota what damage he is doing to America or its allies or even his own legacy; he's like a spoilt brat who smashes up his own toys when his mommy says he can't have any more cookies because it's bedtime now. Infantile spitefulness; yup, that's Trump's last hurrah.

That’s a narcissist’s mind. They can’t lose. That’s why trump lies, changes opinion, ignores blatant truths, etc. He is incapable of seeing reality when it forces him to admit to being wrong.
And that is not someone you want in charge of a country. Even if you like his politics, the man is mentally disturbed. He’s so far off the scale of normal, that he can’t see reality.
And another aspect of narcissism is the vindictive aggression. If you force him to see reality he will set out to destroy you with everything he’s got. So his behaviour creates a vaccuum of two sorts of people around him: sycophants; people who, for their own benefits, suck up to him and embolden the reality he inhabits and people who are traumatized into believing what he says.
Generally you see these behaviours on the micro-scale of a relationship a friend is stuck in. Now you see it on the world scale with the whole world watching.
“I didn’t hurt her. She fell from the stairs. She’s forever falling over. Haha. It’s a wonder she’s not broken anything, she’s so clumsy.”
That’s what they sound like.
And the victims around the narcissist:
“I love him. Pffff I’m so clumsy. Oh, I’ll be fine... just gotta learn how to climb stairs properly.”
It’s not healthy. And it is not what you want running a government (unless you’re a sarcastic brute watching from abroad).
And him not leaving office is exactly the only thing that could happen. He can’t lose. It’s not a reality he inhabits. So it has to be rigged. It has to be plotting against him. There is no other option... in his mind.
And the sycophants and traumatized people around him are onboard for the ride.
What you have to understand is that this is actually a highly dangerous situation.
What happens when the wife of a narcissist pushes past her trauma and leaves him?
Do you think he shrugs it off? Do you think his wife leaving him is a possibility in his reality (it equals losing, so it can’t happen)?
No. The narcissist gets aggressive, it’s someone elses fault, someone has to pay for it and he’ll do anything and everything to uphold the reality in his mind. He gets very vindictive.
And that is what is happening, right here, right now, in the white house.

He's (Trump's) applying for a job. He wants to be the 'sage on the mountain' for the Republican Party. He wants his would-be acolytes to come to him for his blessing to run for office, to make policy, and most importantly, he wants to use them, to direct their paths into witch-hunts against his deepest enemies, the Democratic Party, and especially Joe Biden and his administration, which he will continue to paint as the devil's tool to usurp his righteous second term.
