OK, I just did a quick check on the top 10 threads (before I added this to the list, obviously). Five of the threads were about religion. Three were from STANG. One of the threads was me complaining about STANG. The final thread defined itself as 'a non religious argument' and thankfully was true to its word. But sadly the debates forum now has no agenda apart from God or robotic statements about the president of the US. Have we all ran out of stuff to say? Is there no longer anything in our lives worth talking about?
I'd like to devote this thread to anything and everything you've always wanted to get off your chest. Basically, a request for rants. Maybe this way we can unearth a whole new seam of rich and varied controversies that can keep us stocked up in debates for months to come.

I can't believe that the government wants to recind, or did recind, the Roadless Rule. I live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and go camping in an area that is now set to have roads and natural gas wells. It sucks!!! So much of the Western US is going to be cut and slashed so that the gas companies can make a minimal profit. Don't even get me started on Alaska!

Why Kobe Bryant is the biggest A-hole ever:
Let's all quickly recap: Here's a guy who had the world by the balls. He was on a winning team, he had the good kind of celebrity through endorsements (McDonalds, Sprite, Addidas, etc). He basically had the keys to the Michael Jordan throne. Okay, he screws up and fools around with some girl. Personally, I don't think he raped her but it's aired out in public and his golden boy image is shattered into smithereens. At the same time, the Lakers while making the finals, have one of the most disconnected seasons in history and get swept by the Pistons in 4 which many believed it was supposed to be the other way around. During the offseason, Shaq and Coach Jackson depart from the team under mixed rumors of unrest with Kobe within the organization.
All of the above is not why I think Kobe is an A-hole. After the charges were dismissed in his trial and, as far as I can tell, for no apparent reason, Kobe goes to the media and says words to the effect, "I should have done what Shaq did and pay off that girl". During the entire time of the trial, O'Neal did not say one word publicly of his feelings about Bryant. I'm not sure but I think he was even supportive of him. Let's assume that Kobe was right and Shaq did fool around with a woman and paid her off. What would motivate Kobe to say that about Shaq except to tear his image down with his? Reason 1 Why Kobe is an A-hole.
Reason 2: He's doing the same thing, essentially, with Karl Malone. For those of you who don't know, Malone was a teammate of Bryant's who is nursing an injury and contemplating retirement. When asked by the media about Malone's indecision to come back to team, Bryant said it was a "distraction". Malone was offended by this and has decided not to return to the Lakers. All of the sudden, it is revealed by Kobe that Karl made an inappropriate pass at his wife. Again, why would Kobe make this public assuming that this was true?

The first one is the common cold. Well, maybe influenze, but basically the common cold. And it's not even the common cold that bothers me all that much (may every bloody republican catch it), but about people who say stupid things like: "Don't sit in the draft. You'll catch a cold."

Id like to take a moment to expand on Shav's rant about colds if I may.
Why the f@ck do people insist on paying attention to adverts for Max Strength flu medicine and then taking is so they can continue to work? YOU ARE ILL! Taking paracetamol will not change this fact! YOUA RE CONTAGIOUS!! Struggling into work on the tube, spluttering and coughing with your virulent aerosol creating lungs should be illegal. And then when your temperature has dropped thanks to the paracetamol (which incidentally lengthens the period of your infection, as your body works better at a higher temperature, one closer to the optimum for antibody creation), you feel better and think you are over the illness. Guess what! You are STILL infectious!! Let me spell it out for you, PARACETAMOL IS NOT AN ANTI-VIRAL DRUG! When you go into work to ensure that presentation is in on time, or that you make the important takeoever meeting with the new Japanese clients, YOU ARE STILL INFECTIOUS!!!! If you must do this, don't go by BLOODY TUBE! Take the car, the tube system in London is the perfect transmission vehicle for pathogens, hundreds of people stuffed into a small space for long periods of time at the perfect temperature to improve bacterial and viral growth. Did you know there is a type of mosquito living in the tube, that is found nowhere else in the world? There are types of rat that live there that are immune to ALL KNOWN RAT POISONS! And you b@ast@rds have to add to this with your w@nking self-obsessed work ethic and transmit your f@cking cold to everyone else.

Do not take anti-biotics for colds! Colds are viruses not bacterial infections, the more anti-biotics you take, the less effective your immune system is and therefore the more likely you are to bring about the eventual death of the human race by acting as a life cycle stage for viral development until one day in the future you anti-biotic taking sh*ts transmute something deadly and woohoo, airborn HIV or such like.

I hate the fact that when I originally joined the debates thread, I asked a question out of concern that was met with ridicule from certain Americans. Then when, after a continuation ridicule, I started "ranting", certain Americans complained that about it whilst all us non-Americans have to put up with lots of threads about America's internal affairs as if the world is only as big as America.

Example: Comming off the expressway the other day, I was in a left turn lane that was bordered by yet another left turn lane. Left was the only possible way to go. If you turned right you would be moving into oncomming traffic and if you went straight you would squish yourself against a concrete barrier. Left was the only way anyone could go, there was no other choice, yet every other car besides my own was proudly announcing their intentions to turn left! Duh!
A turn signal is used to communicate with other drivers. I only hope that after this rant, at least a few of you will think about what it is you are trying to communicate the next time you use a turn signal.
A turn signal tell motorist that you are going to change lanes shortly. If that shortly is about a quarter second in the future, it just looks ridiculous. And turning on your signal after you are in the turn lane is just as pathetic. Of course you're turning--you're in a turn lane!
That's it. My steam is released.
