@vivify saidThe real problems will arise when the falsity's are a bit more subtle, and directly political in nature. I think we will see a lot of this from the right in the last weeks of the 24 election campaign leaving enough time to have an effect on voter perception but not enough time to unequivocally debunk it before election day.
A YouTuber used AI to make fake commercials using the voices of real people:

@kevcvs57 saidThe lesson here is: don’t get your news from YouTube, twitter, Facebook, Fox, or your neighbor.

@kevcvs57 saidThis YouTuber made the commercials as a joke but it's quite scary how much they can replicate a real person. I see a future where video evidence of a crime will no longer be admissible in court.

@vivify saidI think there’ll be AI programmes that can deconstruct the fakes and hopefully they will develop filter apps based on them for us info grazing masses.

@kevcvs57 saidHopefully. I think Congress and law enforcement should start think up laws now to prevent abuse of AI and to combat fakes.

Right now there's an audio recording of Trump admitting he knew he committed a crime by taking those classified docs. What if lawyers try to use the AI defense, since a person's voice can be so accurately replicated? Obviously that won't actually happen but who's to say a lawyer can't try that in the near future?
But as you say, maybe there's software that can be used to verify such things.

@kevcvs57 saidwhat if the right makes a video of the arrest of the leading democrat candidate?

@mott-the-hoople saidHopefully they’ll be as guilty as your boy trump and they’ll deserve everything they get.
