We agree the wealthy should pay a higher share of government spending, but the economic impact of 7.5 million jobs and added consumer spending is good for the entire economy, not just the 1%.
Present law doesn't allow asylum seekers to get work permits for, I believe, 120 days. Getting rid of this foolish requirement, as the bipartisan bill Trump killed would have, would considerably reduce the cost of government housing for them.

Sure, world is a different place in many ways but availability of money is not different. The AMOUNT of money a person spends on say bread back then maybe 30 cents, just a guess, and now 6 bucks, SO WHAT?
A dude has a job back then and MAYBE gets a buck an hour, so he makes 8 bucks a day. So 40 bucks a week, and strangely enough, that is enough money to pay rent, food, clothes and bills.
Now we make 30 bucks an hour or more. So we get 30 times the pay but stuff also cost's 30 times as much so we pay the bills with our pay just like a working dude did in 1930. The tariff back then KILLED the economy and will do EXACTLY the same and now you say half a million will be laid off at Amazon?
To a mind as weak as yours you will NEVER see a link between tariffs and economic disaster LIKE 1930.
