While I am not FOR testing on animals for no reason (particularly cosmetics), I understand that the situation we are in is one that we HAVE to test our drug products on animals to try and ensure that they are safe. This isnt always fool proof (as the recent drug trial that went horribly wrong show) but surely, at this moment in time, it is the best we have. Isnt it time that those protesting at Oxford University just shut up and accepted that, if we want medicine, some things are necessary.
As one writer in The Tmes put it (and i'm paraphrasing here) some of these "activitists" are motivated less by a desire for animal welfare than by a hatred of humanity. Pretty well sums it up for me.

I dont hate humantity. What the writer was trying to say was that the actions of some of these extremists (I dont know if you are in the UK but over here we have just had a court case where some animal welfare protesters waged a campaign against a guinea pig farm including sending firebombs and kidnapping the dead body of a family member) strikes him as less about animal welfare and more about disliking other people and using animal welfare as a cover.

Pretty well sums it up for me - i was saying that I agree with his opinion.
Anyway stop being pedantic 😀

I don't see why I have to take one to drive a car and they don't!
Regarding the link above: you can find scientists that support almost anything (i once had a leaflet with scientists supporting creationism). Surely, if animal testing wasnt necessary then the majority of people testing on them would not do so. I mean, its hard to believe that they actually enjoy doing it and if they didnt have to, they wouldnt?
