@Lundos saidYou suggest then that it is a moving target? Of course it is. You are schooled by Sonhouse? No!! Help!
If we just link to random stuff then here's one that says the opposite:

TODAY the present news is enough to write about, don’t you think. January 6 is over. Everything is all over, here we are. AvJoe is interested in the future. Which is being created today in the present. It is not being created in the past. Leave sun house in the past and get into the new age, the new golden age.
Try a serious, unascerbic , unsarcastic question on occasion.
@AverageJoe1 saidThis is complete garbage. How do you not see it?
I do not have the time nor the room in my Post Box to give you my….own words. Try these words, it is not too long.

They compare trump to Biden but only look at Trump's term before the tax cut. This ignores the three year period of time while trump was president that all the same things were getting worse. More spending, increasing deficits, loss of manufacturing, higher immigration etc.
The spending to gdp ratio was out of control for most of Trump's term and the first year of Bidens term. But Bidens last two years saw decreased deficit spending and an absolutely roaring economy.
@wildgrass saidYeah, that was my point earlier. Who said what and did what when, and was it misreported, or was it true. Descending into the world of Sonhouse.

There is a message in this. I plan to discuss present-day on the Forum. That is 'a plenty, don't you think. Let SHouse handle Jan 6, et al.
So, an example. If it were 4 years ago, and the invasion of aliens begins in TX,, I would write today..."What the hell, drive them back, build a wall,,etc. They are breaking our laws, we don't know who they are... they are from 150 countries including Korea and China. Bad stuff, dude,''' Such as that.
You might write back, along with Marauder, Moonbeam, etc and say it is all OK because of............whatever. All this, today, We would discuss it today. We would wake up and see it differently 24 hours later. Better than discussing 4 years of the crap that you mention, don't you think.
@AverageJoe1 saidImagine that. You wreck the entire concept of debate within a forum labeled "Debates"

Next presidential debates, let's ask all the participants to only talk about the present. How are you feeling right now? One word answers only.

@AverageJoe1 saidI suggest you explain why you think Biden ruined the US economy when most independent economists say otherwise.

I don't know Sonhouse but I do have a degree in economics and many, many years of experience with (macro)economics and business analysis.
While I'm aware of "post hoc, ergo propter hoc", some (most) behaviours can be predicted by past behaviours. We are all trying to make today work while looking towards the future. I can tell you quite freely that Trump is bad for both today and tomorrow and even more so in the years to come if you are not in his inner circle. Both for most Americans and certainly for almost all other countries. And probably also for most of his current inner circle. Just look at what happened to the staff of Trump's first period in office after they ended their usefulness.
@wildgrass saidIt's OK, we are supposed to disagree. Sonhouse would fit your ideal debater. But what if he goes back to Jimmy Carter's budget,,,,,,I just don't know all that history, and linking,,,,well, I aint got the time. I forget, how many police were killed on the 6th, and whose fault was it.

@AverageJoe1 saidWhat you argue is a disagreement on the value of debate.... within the debates forum.

@wildgrass saidMaybe i assume too much, that we should discuss current events?

It seems to be that it has dwindled to trying to outsmart esch other....bringing up issues of long ago, or throwing outlandish issues at normal people who are debating. Trying to make one feel guilty if he does not accept a man who thinks he is a woman to be a woman. Further, that one has a moral obligation to accept such an idea. Things like that have me saying that I have nothing to do with those problem people who are thrown in our face in the Forum.
For which I get chided? Go figure.
