I play Russians all of the time on another site.
What can they say? They aren't in a position to do anything.
The Russian people are not associated with their government and military so I assume most of the people just wish the war wasn't happening, but asking them to speak up or do something could risk their own lives.
China treats its people the same way.
...Ergo...the problem with dictatorships 😉

So do I and had an odd experience yesterday. I was playing black, my Russian opponent made move #1, immediately the site shut down the game and awarded me the win. Hmmmm.. 🤔
@contenchess saidVery good post, Contenchess.

Think about it... What could Americans like me do about America invading Afghanistan in 2002?

@earl-of-trumps saidA lot more than Russians can do about Putin.

But I agree. You can’t blame individuals for the actions of their government. Unless, of course, they freely and fully support those policies.
And even then, if it’s art or a game like chess, I don’t think that politics should get in the way.
When I was travelling (I spent years living out a backpack) there were two rules everyone lived by:
- Always watch the Simpsons together when possible.
- Never discuss politics or religion.
People are generally nicer when they just talk about the weather and of they prefer Star Trek or Star Wars.
If they prefer Father of the Bride… run!
@contenchess saidArkady Dvorkovich, the president of FIDE and a Russian, can, though.

And he just did. Good on him.
@earl-of-trumps saidWhen the UK joined the US in its unnecessary and unjust invasion of Iraq it caused a big enough stink amongst the electorate and the majority of politicians that we changed the rules so that kind of intervention would require a public vote in the commons rather than in smoke filled cabinet meeting between the PM and those he put in the room.

It was tested when we had a vote on intervening in Syria and guess what it was crushed in the vote and we did not intervene.
I think sentiments regarding the 2nd Iraq war are the same in the US but Afghanistan was more about an angry emotional response than a foreign policy decision.
@athousandyoung saidShort if storming the Winter Palace again not much really in the short term. Ballot boxes are stuffed at election time if they need to be, but this might mean he has to be more blatant about it in the future.
A lot more than Russians can do about Putin.
