AOC: "Young people haven't been served"

Debates

It’s got nothing to do with white privilege.

The young generation, 30 and younger, are the first generation in decades who have less money, options, oppertunities, etc. than the previous generation.

The standard of living is falling.
And this is due to choices being made by the 50+ generations.

In the Netherlands, to use an example, the average house now costs 35 ...[text shortened]... ir parents they go.

It’s a poverty trap. And even reasonably well earning people are stuck in it.
Totally disagree.

This is the first generation that can get educated and probably work from home if they so choose.

Nobody has a God-given right to live in the culture district of a major city. Young professionals can live out in the sticks for a fraction of the cost and can usually tele-commute for most jobs, especially the contract jobs you're referencing. I'm very sorry that they won't always be able to walk to their favorite bar or museum, but that's not a societal tragedy.

Higher education can actually be cheaper now than it's ever been if you want it to be. You can learn almost anything you like online and there are numerous ways to get degrees you need for very little if that's what you're interested in.

If you go to University of Florida because you want to go party in Gainesville for 4-5 years, then sure, it will be expensive, but don't whine about how that's what it costs to get an education.
Don't confuse libs with that nasty concept of choice, a mainstay benefit of living in the USA. People choose what they want to do, usually as a result of good planning. Libs, in their movement to channel everyone, don't want their minions to get out of line. Individual choice turns over their apple cart!
Funny how obvious their mantras of control are so obvious,, the libs here think we dont see it.
Just pitiful.

What does that mean?

It means Joe, you quoted AOC incorrectly. The correct language was: "It's actually young people who have not really been served,"

AOC was referring to the skyrocketing cost of higher education and massive debt students must take on as they work to prepare themselves to earn more than minimum wage, a problem that our beloved lawmakers have done littl ...[text shortened]... ants and other corporate welfare goodies.

Correcting your errors is becoming a full time job. 🙄
What?.....Joe lie?......er, I mean 'erred?'

Nice one. If they just got logic, rationale and common sense, we would have nothing to talk about!!
They cannot accept that there will always be fat cats and starving dogs in this world. The same percentage of winners and losers. It kills them that a person tries to be better than the guy who lives next door, like, it is not fair. Really puzzling. And I am chided on the Forum daily for stating the truth.
You?.....Chided for telling the truth?
.....That's an oxymoron

Yes, it can, but employers don't always look upon these methods you mention as exact translations of traditional in person university degrees, frequently dismissing them as 3rd rate education. Degrees earned the traditional way usually carry more weight with employers.

Point of order: Libs here on the form say things like you just did “employers don’t always look up on these methods, blah blah.” Mcphail, with all due respect who are the ‘employers’?. Are they the people that people go to get jobs from? These must be wealthy people? To be hiring other people? I think we have gone full circle now. Face it, you cannot get along without those people. Zalhanzi wants us to tax them out of existence.
Can you, at least, be the first of your lot to get it?

I think we’ll have to change the name of the Republican Party to the ‘Marie Antoinette’ party.
And this from the guy who needs to control what other people have on their passports

OK, this is good...A great example of how a liberal changes the meaning of words, or phrases.
'Control' what people have on their passports?.
The Power to influence peoples' behavior is my definition of Control.

Kev is going to finish, round out, his comment, by telling us his definition of control.

That some employers are stuck in the 1980s doesn't make it mandatory to drop 200 grand on an undergraduate degree, nor make it incumbent on the taxpayers to fund it.

Listen, mchill, I get what you're saying, but think about the logical conclusion to the ideas that:
1. Taxpayers should pay for higher education
2. Traditional college is the only way to really get that higher education

In essence, the logical conclusion is that taxpayers should pay through the nose (hundreds of thousands of dollars) to mollify the outdated ideas of a few boardroom dinosaurs.

I am not being pedantic to say that your statement is not a proper way to explain your point. Your misuse of the word control is hardly insignificant.

OK, I will meet McHill in the middle. Taxpayers pay for tuition for a student. Student makes B+ or better in every subject or is failed out. The money stops when they realize that they should not be there. We will build only successful students who will make successful (rich) businessmen creating jobs and delivering me my widgets to my front door in 2 hours!

That will just cause grade inflation like Stanfurd has.

Yes, it would, but that is what libs want. The 'everyone get a trophy' crowd.
