@averagejoe1 saidYou have way too much free time.
Have you ever said to your wife, (or should I say partner amongst you Libs?) ‘Darlin, I am thinking about buying you a microwave’ , only to have an ad for microwave pop up on your computer?

@averagejoe1 saidI’ve lost count of the times I’ve begged her to assassinate you so I’m gonna say no.

@averagejoe1 saidWhy would you tell your wife you're thinking of buying her a microwave? That's a house object, not a gift. If she needed a microwave wouldn't she buy one? Or is she a halfwitted doormat dependent on you for whatever crumbs you toss?

Yes Joe - It's an unholy alliance featuring big tech and the liberal deep state to monitor and control your every action and thought.
And you will be happy...and controlled! ๐ ๐ ๐
@averagejoe1 saidYou’ve probably had loads of hadverts for microwaves and only noticed the one that popped up whilst you were thinking / talking about microwaves.

If Alexa is eavesdropping I’d like to think it’s for something more sinister than pushing small domestic electricals
@averagejoe1 saidGoogle and Mark Z know more about you than Homeland Security and your tax account put together.

@ponderable saidIts not about you, Ponderable. That is another problem we have with libs. It always 'me' and 'I'. Get a grip.

The question is do you think devices eavesdrop? We don't need your stats.
@kewpie saidActually, I had said I am thinking about buying a Purdey, and she would not be involved.

As to your 'dependent' reference, I am communicating basically with dependents on this site, so made it a simpler analogy.. You apparently did not get it, nor did Ponderable.

@mchill saidI think this is a sideways answer saying that, yes, they eavesdrop.

@averagejoe1 saidNo there's way too much data for targeted ads based on voice.
Have you ever said to your wife, (or should I say partner amongst you Libs?) ‘Darlin, I am thinking about buying you a microwave’ , only to have an ad for microwave pop up on your computer?
You or your darlin' probably already googled something - directions to the hardware store, a YouTube video on how to cook TV dinners over an open flame - that triggered the ad.

@averagejoe1 saidYes, its been going on for a couple years, fine tuning along the way.

@ponderable saidUnless you totally off the grid and not connected in any way to the internet, yes some of what you do, say, buy, post, email etc is being tracked, analysed and used for marketing and other purposes.
