AVID = Advancement Via Individual Determination.
https://explore.avid.org/what-avid-is/
I just had to sit through a Professional Develpoment Day at the High School I teach at because our district spent a million dollars getting this ridiculous program instituted in all our schools some years ago and we are now expected to incorporate it into our regular classroom curriculum.
It is the most ridiculous bunch of politically correct buzzwords and gobbledygook I have ever seen.
PLEASE SAVE US PRESIDENT TRUMP.
Make these awful people go away.
All the teachers were looking at each other going "WTF" and cursing under their breath about how stupid it is during the SIX HOUR presentation by some fuzzy-thinking libtard doosh-wits. .
This sick idea has spread through America's education system and needs to be stopped. It is a poison that is designed to keep our students stupid. .
@Cliff-Mashburn saidWhatever happened to right wingers believing the States should handle education?

Now you want his Royal Majesty dictating the curriculum in every school in the country?
@my-king-and-i removed their quoted postNo, the students just sit and talk/socialize and eat snacks instead of "Self-Actualizing" and "taking ownership" of their education, etc....it's such a bunch of well-meaning baloney. The push to install "scholastic rigor" and get them excited about learning by "taking charge" of the learning experience is just...so...damn....stupid.
I play chess every day with the AVID class teacher and he hates it, says it total BS. I have also substituted in many AVID classes and agree. Waste of time.
@no1marauder saidExcuse me...that's exactly what's going on when Mr. T abolished the DOE.

@Cliff-Mashburn saidWell he can't really do that, but anyway you were pleading with him to abolish the AVID program which is one the individual schools districts decide whether to have or not.
Excuse me...that's exactly what's going on when Mr. T abolished the DOE.
So make up your mind.
@no1marauder saidMy point is these woke BS programs are all over our nation's school systems and everyone is afraid to fall on their sword and point out what a bunch of silly nonsense they are. We can blame the fear of that on the left.

Someone needs to stand up like the little boy in The Emperor's New Clothes and say HEY THAT MAN IS NAKED....THIS STUFF IS BULLcHIT....but everyone is afraid of losing their jobs because the liberal chits in control of our teaching system will ruin their careers if they don't go along with it.
Meanwhile our students keep getting dumber and failing more classes.
@AThousandYoung saidAVID was introduced in 1980 by a teacher in the San Diego, California school system, and you haven't heard of it? it has infested school districts all across America for 45 years and this is news to you?
My school (staff, students, parents and all) is very liberal and embraces DEI etc. I haven't heard of this program but it's exactly the kind of thing that we would be into. I would not be surprised if I get that training soon.
@Cliff-Mashburn saidYep. Never heard of it.

Sounds like your school is way out of date.
