I'll go with Carrie for now. The Stand droned on far too long. I don't even remember what it was about, though Captain Trips in the beginning was the best part of it. If I remember correctly there was too much epic supernatural crap. Epic, magical, world-altering stories are overdone. I get annoyed by them.

Wait! Misery beats out even Carrie I guess.

Insomnia gets my vote for the worst King novel.

I liked the gunslinger. I was also a fan of wizard and glass.

Of non-epic proportions I like Christine.

Christine and It are fine books.

The Dark Tower/Gunslinger series is, like The Stand. too long and epic for me...I got through several of the books but stopped because my boss at the time started psychoanalyzing me by the books I read.

The Stand was the last thing I read by King, super opening, riveting for the first 200 pages, but then half way through the book I just didn't care anymore. King can keep his 1000+ page monsters.

Have any of you read Lisey's Story or Duma Key? Both are quite tough to read, but I found them enjoyable enough. Just started Blaze today.

I read Lisey's story. It had that vibe of a man writing for his woman, instead of a story about a woman. I hope that makes sense.

I'd have to agree with "The Stand".
Now, I'm not suggesting "Cujo" or "The apt pupil" aren't actually better, but I thought the Stand was exceptional writing in his usual genre.

I do tend, however, to find his "normal" stories far better than his horror malarkey (but horror's not my thing).
And they translate to better films.

Short story, but Rita Hayworth & the Shawshank Redemption does it for me.

Proper novel - Salem's lot.

I also loved The Shining, much better than the film.

Of a more modern era, Cell wasnt too bad.
