I’m mostly interested if his words reached out to our conservative American friends.

I watched the whole speech (well, my wife did, I was on the couch being cocky).

When he spoke about Kamila being vice-president being proof that things can change... just after mentioning women got the vote 108 years ago... I said: “Slow bloody change.”

And when he asked what Americans really care about, I murmured: “Chicken nuggets.”

Other than that, from my point of view, it was optimistic, nationalistic claptrap.
Although it was refreshing to hear a US president reach out to the international community again.
And take into account, unless it’s stand-up comedy, I find most speeches tedious.

The speech was obviously aimed at conservatives with a strong unifying message. Making a clear distinction between lies and polarisation versus truth and solidarity.

I’m not American and find it hard to judge the impact. So, seriously, I want to know how the right-wingers here experienced it.

Thanks.

I'm not right-wing, I did not support Donald Trump, and I've been waiting for this day for four long years.

When he finished, I had tears on my face and sniffles. All I could think was: "Finally."

Yeah it looks like you’ve traded in a low level gangster for a statesman, always a good move. Biden was made for this job at this time.
It was the poet laureate that got me on the verge but I just pretended I needed to sneeze and covered my humanity with a tissue 😢🤧💪🏼

I sometimes wonder what needs to happen to make you happy.

I mean what did you expect, an announcement that Bernie will be made ‘chief of staff’ AND ‘head of everything’ and given licence to introduce a $50k minimum wage, imprison anyone earning over £75k, proclaim free healthcare for everyone, disarm all the nukes, give Israel the bird and donate 100bn to Palestine?

PS I said exactly the same about slow change for women, but I think it was more about his example lacking more increments.

My feelings exactly.

Poets don’t do much for me as most of them aren’t much good imo, but Amanda Gorman’s reading made my eyes well up.

Saw her interviewed later on CNN she’s wise beyond her years or mine for that matter.

This isn’t about Biden’s administration.
It’s about his speech. And if right-wingers felt it reached out to them.

Why no mention of policies? Why preach unity when at the same time impeaching the past president, the president of 78M people? Why preach unity when at the same time impeaching the past president......of 78 million people?

So his words didn’t reach out to you?
Can I conclude that?

Biden certainly is not a great speaker, not at the same level as Obama or Clinton, but in this case, substance matters over style.
And from that perspective, job well done !!

Note, for those who want to pop up out of their gopher holes and blather on about Trump's speaking style, I'll say this......
I'm sure he'll do well going on speaking tours through trailer parks....

I didn't watch it...

But I did see a clip where he said we need to unify, then he basically calls out 78 million Trump voters ( of all races/ethnicity ) as domestic terrorists...maybe it was taken out of context?

However...seems like a good start to me! Yay! Everything is going to be great when they begin the war on white America! Let the purge of the white devil commence!

Personally...I'm all for rounding up the white demon and their children and mass sterilizing. The many millions of non-whites who voted for Trump, they have just been lead astray. They can just go into re-education camps and then be reintroduced into the system.

Actually, I liked his style and his commitment to making America Great Again, to tell you the truth. I liked his words. I was just disappointed what, after our man has left, he intends to DO, what policies.... Yes, I know about his 17 exec orders yesterday, we will see how that goes with energy, etc, ,,,,,,,I just did not hear what he is going to do as practical matter. Promises. Like the ones Trump made.
