Perhaps the powers that be wanted these protests to get bad for an excuse to suppress free speech. Macron is demanding censorship now. Is it really social media that is to blame? The French news media had nothing to do with people getting upset to this degree?

You really need to figure out what the phrase whataboutism actually refers to.
I’ll give you a clue it’s not a post that blows a massive whole in your assertion / hobby horse that it’s all the EUs fault.
The UK is an island and WE clearly cannot control our border so how do you expect landlocked countries to hermetically seal theirs? Should they all turn themselves into soviet era east Berlin in reverse and machine gun anyone crossing their borders?

It sure looks that way. Now they want to spy on everybody with their phones. MB called it right again. If the French government gets away with this the same Orwellian methods will be used in other western countries.
