Just goes to show that Dems can be corrupt bastards too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammany_Hall
Tammany Hall was the Democratic Party political machine that played a major role in controlling New York City politics and helping immigrants (most notably the Irish) rise up in American politics from the 1790s to the 1960s. It usually controlled Democratic Party nominations and patronage in Manhattan from the mayoral victory of Fernando Wood in 1854 up to (but not including) the election of Fiorello La Guardia (nominally Rep.) in 1934, whereupon it weakened and collapsed.

The Cook County Democratic Organization is one of the most powerful political machines in American history. Commonly called the "Chicago Democratic machine", the organization has dominated Chicago politics since the 1930s. It relies on a tight organizational structure of ward bosses and precinct captains to maintain discipline, as well as patronage and graft to reward supporters.

Why do Americans insist on moving the blame from the individual to the party they represent????

Originally posted by uzlessI'm a registered Dem. I would absolutely love it if the party leadership made some effort to recruit strong, uncorrupted individuals for positions of power but they don't seem to be capable of doing that.

There are corrupt people in all working environments...their political affiliation is irrelevant. Did anyone actually think there were no corrupt democrats prior to this??

Originally posted by uzlessIt is fair and unfair. Republicans in general always get tagged when one of theirs is caught red handed.

Good for the goose, good for the gander.
The Chicago machine politics is infamous. Detroit's is much the same, and in general one party political power is a bad thing. Politicians in power become arrogant and believe they are untouchable, like another Chicagoan, Elliot Ness.
