The man who is described as the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Toniblair, has just announced that, like Mohammed, he was in touch with the Almighty who directed him to wage war on Iraq.
The farcical aspect of this pronouncement reminds me of the following witicism coined in the first world war:-
God heard the embittered nations call,
'Gott straffe England'; 'God save the King'.
'Good God',said God,'I've got my work cut out'.

.
We've had intimations of this before, but the best bit of the interview was where he played his usual trick of saying that he "didn't want to get into" a discussion about whether he prayed for that particular bit of gnosis. He excels at this kind of enforced emotional manipulation:

(1) "My conscience is my bond, and my conscience is of course guided by the values and principles of my faith."
(2) "I am quite pious - of course everyone is quite pious in their own way, and I am not an exception to the rule."
(3) "In fact, I'm so pious, I don't really like to talk about it. Could we please move on from the issue I've just raised?"

As an English citizen, i found the whole interview an embarassment and totally cringe worthy.

what was the point of his statements?

To say England went to war as a crusade or something?

Totally lost my respect put it that way and im not even bothered about why when or what he chose to go to Iraq for but not that reason.

Good article, good old Terry Jones.
Thanks for posting, I would not normally touch the Grauniad so would have missed this.
