The cost of a TV license in the UK is £159 per year. BBC outsources their sales process to a third-party company called Capita, who operate under the TV Licensing brand name. Capita’s salesmen rebrand themselves as “Enforcement Officers” or “TV License Inspectors”. This creates a false impression of legal authority, used to coerce victims into cooperating. BBC send salesmen to visit unlicensed addresses from their database. These salesmen receive a commission not only for every TV license they sell, but also every successful prosecution they obtain. They therefore attempt to collect evidence of unlicensed TV viewing during their visits. UK police are brought in to oversee the inspections carried out by Capita if there is resistance.
As insane as this probably sounds to most people in other countries, it gets even worse. If authorities believe you are watching BBC related content without a license, they can visit your home to collect on fines, and with a warrant, this includes breaking and entering to search your property.

Yeah I never understood why the UK gets away with charging people for owning a television, seems like they'd revolt.
But then, here in the US we have to pay taxes when we buy some things, like homes/cars/boats/other luxury items, then each year we get another bill and have to pay taxes on it all over again, until we die.
Likewise we gotta pay taxes on how much we earn, then we pay taxes again on how much we spend.
Sort of sucks.
.
@JJ-Adams
If you think about it the British TV tax collection gives much the same incentive to bust people to fine them and give them a cut of the fines like drug prohibition laws give incentive with confiscation of property and auctioning the property off for money. They both get their cut for being Nazis in their enforcement efforts.
Then the UK government uses the money to fund BBC propaganda to support foreign wars against the British people's interests. Apparently few people would fund the BBC voluntarily. Who can blame them?
@metal-brain saidYeah because I mean look at all the Jews that were gassed by the Nazis in the 1940s for not having a TV licence and now here we go again. Oh the horror!

I realise that fascist halfwits like yourselves prefer corporations and belligerent foreign states to rule the airwaves so they can fill the spacecwith BS.
The revolt will come when an ultra right wing government finally dismantles the BBC by getting rid of the TV licence.
By the way most folk have a smart tv that they can stream on without watching or paying the BBC £160. Are you working on behalf of GB News the ultra right wing reactionary brain washing outlet that looks scarily familiar to RT
@metal-brain saidAside from the BBC being largely unwatchable due to it being a curious mix of a sexual abusers hideout, a woke holiday camp and so biased in its reporting that one could easily mistake it for being a poorly made movie; let me correct you as usual…

The licence fee is £159 p/a, correct
The BBC do outsource their collection enforcement; god forbid they could get their dainty little hands dirty themselves, correct
The enforcement … err … persons do not have the right to break into a house, only the police have that power and I assure you the police don’t give two shats about TV licence dodgers
Capita are however thugs but all people have to do is either not answer the door or just say nothing and certainly not invite them in.
Finally, the TV licence is on its last legs as is the chronically infirm, incompetent and morally broken BBC, who are currently in the process of cutting program lengths in order to save money.
Try watching BBC breakfast and see how fast you bring up your toast.

Yes, yes… Sky News is so much better…

@shavixmir saidSky News is indeed much better, but they annoy me also with their blatant click-bait headlines to drive advertising revenue.

But I’m talking about the BBC more in general terms. The BBC is so far from being an “independent” corporation it’s jaw dropping. The litany of scandals, controversies and abuse goes back a 100 years but more recent stuff with them shooting themselves in both feet as the bosses fell over each other in a fit of virtue-signaling in the Lineker fiasco was awesome TV.
And of course the firing of Clarkson for punching another godshyte in the mouth and immediately destroying the most popular and biggest money spinning program in their history…and which this week they announced they’ve finally given up trying to save.
PS I’m not a “Tory voter” I’m a floating voter. Not that that has anything to do with anything.
@shavixmir said"The enforcement is mandated, so legal"
Yeah… not really nazis though.
The enforcement is mandated, so legal.
You don’t have to watch the BBC.
By keeping the BBC out of private hands and commercial free, the concept is that the news station of the people is reliable.
So were the Nuremberg Laws. Your point?

The BBC is nit biased it just tries to report reality and you know an authoritarian regime by it attacks on media that cannot be controlled by it or censored by corporate advertising . That’s the tories real problem with the BBC, it’s editorial independence and penchant for asking the government awkward questions
I suggest you stick with that unbiased GBNEWS dive where you can listen to all those ex Tory and Brexit party members slagging the BBC off for its bias 😂😂
@divegeester saidYeah nearly as many sex scandals as the Tory party, but I exaggerate, nothing like as many as the Tory party

Of course we’d be much better informed if we relied on billionaire owned media outlets because they definitely have the interests of the majority at heart.
You must be getting on a bit dive, your turning in to Alf Garnet
