Canada vows to ‘freeze’ handgun sales, buy back assault-style weapons

TORONTO — Canada on Monday introduced new gun-control legislation that, if passed, would implement a “national freeze” on buying, importing, transferring and selling handguns, effectively capping the number of such weapons already in the country.

The bill, which officials here cast as “the most significant action on gun violence in a generation,” also includes “red flag” laws that would allow judges to temporarily remove firearms from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others and stiffer penalties for gun smuggling and trafficking.

“We recognize that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible and follow all necessary laws,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa. “We are, however, facing a level of gun violence in our communities that is unacceptable.”

@vivify
Too bad us Americans will just ship thousands of weapons snuck across the border.
I guess 400 million guns owned in the US are never enough.

This could just be opportunistic virtue-signaling in advance of Trudeau's possible dissolution of the Canadian Parliament in order to force early elections (which would otherwise occur in October of 2023).

Otherwise, why would it take an incident in Texas to tip the balance toward him making such a proclamation?

If "virtue-signaling" gets rid of the guns, who cares.

A lot of good it will do us down here if Canada gets rid of their guns.

Right, cuz we're the only country that matters.

Why guns are not the real issue it’s the hearts that uses them for evil purpose. There are millions of gun owners that you never hear about because they don’t pose any danger compared to those that do.

By your logic, no weapon, no matter how dangerous, should be illegal. Pipe bombs don't kill, people do, right?

Pipe bombs are not typically the weapon of choice when it comes to defending one's home from criminals. Criminals that usually should still be in prison. The likes of which hold a knife to the belly of a pregnant woman while their buddies rampage rob the house. Criminals like that later get eulogized as heroes by the left in this country.

1000 years ago, some lib probably wanted pitchforks outlawed! ๐Ÿ˜€
