@no1marauder said"If not expecting such lunacy makes the Capitol Police "incompetent", then I guess they were."
There have been thousands of people outside the Capitol before.
Never had they been incited by the President of the United States to break into it and disrupt the Constitutional functioning of the US Congress.
If not expecting such lunacy makes the Capitol Police "incompetent", then I guess they were.
I thought Trump overtly incited an insurrection. Isn't that the position of democrats? How could they not expect it? The FBI was working on that very thing. You don't think they would give advanced warning of what was happening outside?
The Capitol building subway was designed for escape. It has the option to go to a nuclear bunker. Your claim it was simply for convenient transportation and nothing more is naive.
@metal-brain saidThe subway system is used every day for members of Congress and their staffs to travel from their offices to the Capitol building.

That is its main purpose.
It was opened in 1909 and has never been used for evacuation purposes that I can find. I doubt it had a nuclear bunker installed then either though plenty of places were converted to fallout shelters etc. etc. in the 1950s and early 1960s.
@no1marauder saidThat is not the only purpose. I'll bet it can take congress to an underground nuclear bunker.

@metal-brain saidMaybe it can but that was put in long after the subway system was first installed and has never been used while hundreds, perhaps thousands use the system for convenient travel every day.

From the Architect of the Capitol website:
"The purpose of the subway is to allow for safe and expedient travel for Senator and Members of Congress to travel from the office buildings to their respective chambers within the Capitol for voting."

Nor do the "trains" look like efficient evacuation vehicles:
" The train that operates between the Senate and the Russell Senate Office Building is a quaint open air tram that runs along three catenary wires on the ceiling. There are four compartments for riders and a conductor cab in the center. Each compartment is furnished with padded red vinyl seating, and two compartments have seats facing each other."

@no1marauder saidCongress could have escaped. Capitol police knew exactly what was going on outside. They actually helped it happen by letting protestors through the barricades. You saw the video.

Congress was never really in danger unless the Capitol Police wanted them to be in danger. Is that why Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund resigned? If you are going to have an incompetence theory at least make some sense like I just did. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund did resign. Why aren't you saying he is the incompetent factor mostly responsible for congress being caught with their pants down?
Make some sense. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund resigned. I'm helping you out here. It is no fun debating you when you don't even try.
@metal-brain saidThere is no video showing police letting people through barricades into the Capitol Building. There is plenty of video of the rioters attacking police at the barricades, at the doors and windows of the Capitol and inside the building.

What is the difference if the head of the Capitol Police resigned? That doesn't prove anything.
@no1marauder saidThe Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) may have access from the capitol building. We already know that exists. It allegedly lies beneath the East Wing of the White House, the center of the executive branch and home of the president. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. I'm sure congress has access to a bomb shelter of some sort. If the POTUS does, congress does too.

@no1marauder saidI posted the video for you. Regardless of how they got through the barricade that is when congress should have been alerted for a possible evacuation. At that point it would have been on congress to flee a bad situation.

You have an incompetence theory. Was the guy that resigned to blame?
