Oh please. He's old and sick. He retired. He didn't resign in disgrace or anything like that. Isn't his brother, whom he appointed, still in charge?

Well, call it "Operation Let Nature Run Its Course." Either way, it worked! His Brother Raul is already in his 70s, so we won't have to work nearly as long on him. And I'm pretty sure that the next guy in line isn't a Castro.

It never ceases to amaze me that the right wingers are brought to paroxysms of rage at the mere mention of Castro, but they have no problem turning a blind eye toward the dozens of right wing dictators we have supported over the years (many far worse than Castro).

Castro had his faults, to be sure, but in the grand scheme of things he's hardly even worth mentioning.

It's worth mentioning that we kicked his arse! ...with a little help from Father Time.

I'm just sayin' if look who came first... The US was here when Castro came to power, and it's still goin' strong now that he's steppin' down. A few missles and some communism ain't stoppin us, no sir!

Nobody kicked anything.

Castro is standing down when he chooses to, not because of anything the US has done (despite their best efforts to invade or assasinate).

You can celebrate that the US survives longer than an individual if that makes you feel better.

Meanwhile, the ideas of the Cuban Revolution will long outlive the US.

Yeah, great ideas. When Castro took over, he ran firing squads around the clock for months, killing thousands, anyone who had been anybody plus their wives, children, relatives. Politicians, teachers, businessmen, college students, people who had travelled to America and were suspect, you name it. Then he turned the island into a poverty ridden hellhole because he killed everyone who was halfway educated or competent. Some revolutionary ideas.

Google it, there's never been any question, it's history. Castro never tried to hide it or deny it. Here's a start:

I won't step into this shaky "debate".

However, whether I sympathize or not with the Castro regime, this
bit of info is the most ignorant statement I've ever read, specially
being worldwide known the literacy rate of Cubans and their amazing
scientifical achievements.

No Latin American country (and even many 2nd and 1st world countries)
has the education level of Castro's Cuba.

Google it.

No, the way a debate works is that you make the claim, so you have to substantiate it.

People were executed as part of a civil war after Castro came to power, but that's not what you're claiming.

Your time article proves nothing, other than that people get killed in war.

Oh hell have it your way, everything's great in Cuba, that's why so many people have died trying to escape from there. It's a workers paradise. That's why communist regimes treat their citizens like prisoners and don't allow them to leave. How many people try to escape from America to join them? For that matter why don't you go there if it's so damn great?
