In the United States, the legal drinking age is 21. Do you think it should be changed?

-------------------

I would like to see the drinking age lowered, but I know that could be a bad thing. First though, consider this. In many European countries, kids grow up drinking alcohol with family at mealtimes and on periods of celebration. Now I know that isn't true in all countries, but in some that is a common practice. I'm not sure of this, but I believe that alcoholism is worse in the US than in Europe where many countries have younger drinking ages and children are introduced to alcohol at a much earlier age.

Getting back to my idea, I think it should be lowered. You only hear about people being irresponsible with alcohol. Going to parties, drinking uncontrollably and then getting behind the wheel of a car and hurting somebody else or themselves. Well, those are the people who drink irresponsibly. Plenty of legal adults who drink do so carefully, making sure they don't have too many drinks, go with friends who dont drink, and so on. I think the drinking age should be lowered as there are many teens who are responsible, but the media only shows you 99% of the time, teens who were careless in their actions.

What do you think?

No matter how young, I think cheerleaders should be allowed to drink as soon as they get those cute uniforms.

the USA has the highest minimum drinking age of any country in the world, so yes it could be lowered ... some countries have no legal minimum drinking age at all ... eg China

Would we still get to have some pubs that only serve those who are 21 or older? I'm not keen to have a bunch of teenagers drinking at my pub. They are noisy, and generally banal. If they stay out of my pub, I say let them gets as trashed as they want. If you're old enough to have vote and die for your country, then you should be able to go to the store and get a six-pack.

Can't you just kick their a**? That's a far more traditional way of dealing with noisy, drunken teenagers at a bar than banning them!

Well, that's what we do now, and when I bartended I would just haul them out by their ear when they tried to come in. I'm fine with protecting the integrity of my local pub in this fashion.

So, drink up kids! But if you drink at Murphy's Irish Pub in Seattle, you'll be picking asphalt out of your face come morning.

Legal drinking age here is 18yrs old. You get alot of young kids getting uncontrolably wasted in alot of local bars but there are still 21 and over clubs, where there are alot of "older" people getting uncontrolably wasted.

In NZ, we lowered the drinking age from 20 to 18 about five years ago. Now there is currently a bill being drafted to raise it back to 20. Ha! Man, are we stupid sometimes.

i think that in the US if you can join the army at 17 then you should be allowed to drink at 17 if you are considered mature enough to handle guns and die for your country you should be allowed to throw a few back

Everyone knows age comes with wisdom, your smarter now then you was a couple years ago, right?

So my point is, if we are having all these problem's with 21 year olds, with drunk driving etc. why even make it legal to younger ppl, it seems like when somone gets killed by drunk drivers, the drunk drivers are younger then 30, so why not raise it to 30? lol BTW I dont drink, (Im smarter then that 🙂 ) so I dont really care

hey im in england and the drinking age is 18, thats okay, but im 16 so its hard to convince people to sell us booze, yea i like to drink quite a lot, but thats mainly because it improves the atmosphere at the football (aka soccer in america),
so basically im sayin id be happy for there to be no age restrictions and everybody to go out and get pissed, and yea thats partly because im an idiot lol

Im usualy for less laws, Why not make no age restrictions?, but if you ever get a DUI or any other drinking related charge, you get double the fine or somthing
