I have had a bit of a debate with my girlfriend, and I feel it is only proper to settle it by circumventing media propaganda, and asking you, the people of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland -
If you were required to vote either for, or against the monarchy (obviously won't happen) would you vote for the royal family to continue in their capacities, or would you vote to abolish the monarchy?
Any additional commentary on why my question is naive, in either direction is also welcome. I live in the Republic of Ireland, so we see your television, but are not familiar with the United Kingdom's actual views on this particular question.
Thanks...

I've never quite understood why this sort of argument (used to be 'President Blair'😉 is seen by some people to be a clincher. If we don't want someone as president, then we can elect someone else instead.
President Brown does not appeal.
I'd have absolutely no objection to a member of the current royal family standing for election as an elected head of state.
