Ok, picture this. Every country in the world sinks into the sea next tuesday except the United States. With no evil in the world to police, would the United States become a Utopia of Freedom? Or would the opposing Republican and Democrat State lines create a civil war? Given the obvious difference in values and politics between the North and the south and the removal of outside struggles to bring Americans together, could Americans remain together?
Discuss (try not to be partisan about this if possible, think about it afresh🙂)

Originally posted by DelmerIm sorry, all Americans are imigrants. By drawing these differences you are removing the meaning of an American. If you go back far enouph, all British people are imigrants too. After invations that occured over centuries, the invaders became the natives, as has happened in America but in a different form (ie free imigration, not just invation).

Originally posted by flyUnityIm interested to find out how Americans see other Americans. The suspicion that is evident in recent foreign policy is something i feel is inherent in the American psyche. Remove the bad guy over the sea, does that suspicion redirect itself within or does it disappear all together?
I didnt say for Eternity, what would you do? start a civil War? I would be building a boat lol
I'd build an Island on the other side of the Atlantic BTW. Possibly call it Blightey 😉

If all the other countries sank into the oceans and the US wasn't covered in water. Then I think life would become rather crappy. Tremendous upheavals in the economy would radically reshape the wealth distribution in the country. People with land would be relatively richer. Those who were Pokemon importers would be screwed.
I imagine stress would rise all around and tempers would run high. Representatives of every religion would preach about how their holy writings predicted the disaster.
Perhaps more distressing, the progressive voters would realize with horror that the xtian evangelical vote increased from 2% to 40% of the world. Next they would realize that Republicans not only dominate the White House, both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the majority of governor's seats, but they now dominate the world.
So how would it all shake down?
Liberals vs. Conservatives? Fundies vs. Smart People? Rich vs. Poor?
Racial free for all?
No. No. No. and No.
The US would divide by cultural region. Alaska, now the second largest continent, would recognize that it has nothing in common with the lower 48. It would team up with Hawaii to create the ultimate vacation paradise. The West Coast would finally get the rest of the country of its back. WA, OR, CA, NV, AR, NM, CO, ID, WY, UT, and MT, would form a cool, independent, relaxed country. Shortly thereafter the New West would wise up and drop ID, WY, UT, and MT. They would hang onto CO for the skiing, but all the crazy evangelical Dr. Dobson crowd would have to move in with the Mormons. Dr. Dobson would disappear into the South.
The Northeast would split off taking Northern VA with it. They would call themselves "The Real America" and remind themselves proudly that this was what the Founding Fathers had invisioned 230 years ago. Finally, free of supporting the lagging Southern and Midwestern states, they would prosper. As the marginal product of labor in the Northeast is so high, the wage rate would skyrocket. To feed industry, companies would begin importing cheap labor from the South and Midwest.
All that area without a name or Great Lake States or whatever, MN, IL, MI, WI, OH, IN, IA, they would freeze to death.
Florida would become Nueva Cuba. It would remain a source of irrational fear for Southeners who blame the "New Wave O Q-bans" for stealing their jobs. Then some one would point out that there are no jobs in the South.
The South and the Midwest would attempt to band together, citing shared "moral values." This would last until the first Sunday when the crazy pentecostal Midwest starts dancing in church and speaking in tongues. The Baptist South would condemn their Midwestern brothers to hell, calling them witches and "spawn of Satan." Jerry Falwell would become the president of the South and ask a dejected Pat Robertson, newly impoverished by his loss of blood-money diamond mines in Africa and his Northern VA home to the Northeast, to be his vice-President. They will rule over a theocratic dictatorship.
The Midwest will revert back to being a desolate wasteland, bereft of anything worth considering.
Yeah, that's probably how it would go.

people, and people do evil things to each other. You seem to be
more concerned about what manner of government, or system
of control that is in place than the citizens of the US. We are
no different, no better than anyone else. What would happen
here would happen everywhere else, unless the hearts of people
change there isn't a lick of difference between the people in the
US and those in other countries. There is not a different species
of human living here.

Maybe it would be a good idea to organise a war between all the American fundies, the Christian ones , the Muslim ones, the Jewish ones, and let's not forget the worst, the secular ones.
Aahhh, what a wonderfull world would it be ......
And yes ivanhoe, we get it. There are secular fundies as well. You've only railed on this in about four other threads!

If America didn't have the rest of the crappy little third world countries to worry about it'd be like heaven on earth here, we spend a lot of time and effort keeping peace in the world and feeding the poor little half human savages, it's time we were recognized for it.
Your post is unpleasant, racist and startlingly ignorant.
Rich.
