"CHENZHOU, China (Reuters) - Millions remained stranded in China on Monday ahead of the biggest holiday of the year as parts of the country suffered their coldest winter in a century.

Freezing weather has killed scores of people and left travelers stranded before the Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival -- the only opportunity many people have for a holiday all year.

.

The China Meteorological Administration said the weather was the coldest in 100 years in central Hubei and Hunan provinces, going by the total number of consecutive days of average temperature less than 1 degree Celsius (33.8 degrees Fahrenheit)."

well, global warming doesn't always make things warmer, sometimes it makes things colder.

China + Tajikistan = 2% of Earth's surface area.

Still not quite global yet is it?

Australia had record heat in 2007; now China is having a record cold spell. In Greenland, people are shooting dogs and growing vegetables. I don't know what to make of all this, but I need something to attach myself to, so I'll Google up an opinion. This one's convincing enough:

So which hypothetical do you prefer, global warming or a mini Ice Age?

A very convenient truth?

Good, someone has learnt what global means. Next task: learn what climate means.

I think we're entering a global cooling period. The solar flares and the continuous reduction of sunlight will eventually lead us back into a new cold age.

...and it doesn't always cause drought, sometimes it causes flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, and well, anything we want to attribute to what we used to just simply refer to as "the weather."

it's been cold here on the US west coast, too. seen snow on the hills two or three times this season, as compared to once or twice the previous 10 years. anecdotally.

The main problem as I see it with this 'Global warming' or perhaps better described 'Climate change' is that the changes that it causes conflict with what people have become used to, where populations are located. Whether it be rising sea levels causing flooding in coastal areas, where lots of people live, whether it be drought in Australia, or flooding in say India. Things are changing, and it will take time money and effort to adapt to it, climate change in my mind expands this problem, as it is a large contributing factor to change in weather patterns, which disrupts, and in some cases destroys the situation for the people in a given area (rising sea levels for low lying islands for example).
