Jimm, I am sure you could have pointed out healthy plantation slaves in the Deep South, pre emancipation, too. In fact, I'd venture to say that plantation slaves in the Old South were better fed and clothed than many Cubans today.

Just for the heck of it, did you ask how much money a computer programmer makes in Cuba? How about a carpenter??

slave farm.,

Oh, I cherry picked...? When was the last time you heard of an America "defecting"?
Jeeezus, Duches64, wake up. The laws preventing people from escaping Cuba apply to everyone.
-----------

Mister González choosing to stay in Cub is NOT going to excuse Cuba for slaving the people that want to leave but can't

After emancipation in America, some former slaves ch ...[text shortened]... individuals is legal??

'Fraid not Duchess64. Cuba is a gigantic Slave Farm. Stop protecting them.
You are incorrect.....Cuba has a unique status; any Cuban who
sets foot in The United States is granted citizenship....
No Green card needed. That is why we try to intercept them at sea
because, if they make it to shore.......THEY ARE IN,, WE WILL NOT DEPORT THEM !!

They don't make much money, of course they have few expenses.
No rent , no light bill, no medical bills and the government provides
basic nutritional foods for EVERYONE ! You seem to know everything,
can you tell me why poor little Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate
than the good ol' USA?...What Americans don't seem to understand is
that our way is good for us but maybe it isn't the best way for everyone.
We go into Afghanistan, where different tribes and warlords have
been feuding for THOUSANDS OF YEARS, and think we can impose our
system on them....They seem to be doing O.K. in Vietnam don't they?
But you are right about one thing, smart guy, if you wanna' get rich,
Cuba ain't the place.
....On the other hand, if you were the average Cuban,
with a family to feed, you can live with greater quality of life in Havana
than say washing cars, or cleaning people's houses in Miami.
You're such a smart guy, why not go down there and take a look for yourself?
By the way, Cuba is a colorblind society.

Altho back then, yes, you are correct "special status". But this has nothing to do with the point I was driving.
Regardless what the US does for the Cubanos that defect, Cuba still makes it illegal for them to do so.

*that* is what makes Cuba a slave farm.

I remember Stevenson. I also remember Javier Sotomayor from the 1990's who, to this day is the only person to clear 8 feet. Amazing.

Anyway, his winning earned money *for Cuba* and Cuba publicly announced that they were going to share some of that with Javier. But it was a tiny portion.

slaves. that's all. grateful slaves.

@jimm619 - By the way, Cuba is a colorblind society.

The Cuban people are very good, no doubt. But Cuba is not all that you make it out to be, either.

Racism in Cuba: banned by law, alive on the streets

Rigoberto DIAZ - July 18, 2020
Havana (AFP) - Six decades on from Cuba's proclamation of equality and despite three top government officials being black, the Caribbean island nation has made little headway on racism.

"Racism in Cuba is very hypocritical ... No-one says they're racist, even if they are," researcher Tomas Fernandez, 79, an author of several books on the subject, told AFP.

https://news.yahoo.com/racism-cuba-banned-law-alive-streets-095839133.html
-------------------

One must think... If Cuba passed laws against racism, maybe there is an existing problem, eh? Ya.
And like all totalitarians, they truly believe that if they pass laws against such behavior, then the behavior is vanished - just like [SNAP] that.

I see you, Jim, like many others, have fallen for the liberal bullscrit about racism in Cuba. I suggest you read the article.

"It's common for white families to tell (their daughters) not to get involved with that (black) lad," said the history student.

Of course you can pass laws making open racism illegal and nearly all civilised countries democratic or other wise have already done so. You cannot stop people being racist that’s about intellect and upbringing but you can certainly punish them for displaying that deviant and defective attitude.

You seem to know everything about Cuba, have you ever been there?
I didn't think so. Like I said, smart guy, why not go there and see for yourself?
Discrimination laws, huh?...
Cuba was founded in 1958, wonder when they passed those laws?
Fact is, it only took us 200 years to pass similar laws.
Why are you so critical of Cuba anyway? Their system works for them,
and believe me when I tell you, smart guy, the people are not enslaved.
I don't always agree with you, but you usually have a thoughtful answer.
Have you drank THE KOOL AID? Show me evidence of enslavement?
Do you also believe Biden stole the election?
I'll repeat myself, go down to Cuba and see for yourself
What your eyes see, your heart must believe..

...............It was, and may still be, illegal for an American Citizen
to travel to Cuba. Why is that, smart guy? Everyone else visits.
I met many Europeans, Canadians and even Mexicans in Cuba.
''Land of the free?'' Tell that to the poor devils incarcerated BY US at
Guantanamo Bay.Some have been there 20 plus years and never
been in front of a judge, let alone charged.....Oh yeah, terrorists,
Says who?..Bring it to court, show me the evidence..
And you wanna' preach to me about 'enslavement'?
Don't drink THE KOOL AID, my friend.

Jim, I'm not going to stay on this forever and just keep repeating myself.
But when you are a citizen on the Island of Cuba and you are told you can never leave the Island, you are a slave, YES.

Before Fidel died he and brother Raul were both $billionaires. Not bad for communists, eh? The two of them RAPED the people of Cuba.

...And, of course, Haiti is a regular Paradise.
Hey, smart guy, correct me if I'm wrong, please.
They can't leave Cuba---And you can't visit...... ironic, huh?
Is Haiti a Communist, enslaved country?
Are those 'lucky capitalists' able to procure
essential needs from The Haitian Government?
Are they able to leave Haiti?
Hey, wasn't 'Baby Doc' able to 'retire to the
south of France, and pass the days in a beautiful chateau?
Wonder who took better care of their people, do you wonder?
Do you even care?
Who do you suppose stole more money?....Huh?
Hey, your boy Trump, probably stole more
than both of them combined.....
Earl, you seem intelligent and even thoughtful, at times.
But, in the future do a little more homework before
you start running pie hole about subjects that you are
unfamiliar with.......And quit drinking THE KOOL AID
Don't cop out, GO TO CUBA and then talk to me,
while you're down there, visit 'those jolly non slave
Haitian .Capitalists and tell me who has a better quality of life.
Better yet, visit your fellow American Citizens on the island
of Puerto Rico and see how they're doing....
You say you want to end this dialogue, usually the words
of someone who is unable to defend their 'alternate facts.'

Jim, you are being deceived.

If the Communists did not make it illegal to emigrate from Cuba, Cuba would have emptied out
long ago. Doesn't that tell you there is something generically wrong with Cuba?
People are impoverished and they want to strike out for another life somewhere else. But they can't.

The people there are very nice. Do not take that to mean that their government is too.

.Do you contend that were Americans allowed
to visit Cuba we would all stay there?
You were speaking to someone, on this thread,
about The Gonzalez family. Why didn't they stay?
They could have written their own ticket.......
Like I said, get your facts straight before
you decide to run your pie hole.
It is difficult to get a visa to leave CUBA....but not illegal
It is also difficult to get a visa into THE USA....but not illegal
I answer your questions, yet you have yet to answer any of mine.
You're such a smart guy, maybe you can tell me;
Why does Cuba have a lower infant mortality rate than The USA?
Why does big city, Havana, have no people sleeping on the streets?
Why is it that Havana is safer than any comparable American City?
Why do all Cuban people receive free higher education & healthcare?
Why does Cuba have A HIGHER LITERACY RATE than The USA?
Why is it that a poor country like Cuba can guarantee shelter for everyone?
Why are ALL of the Cubans guaranteed nutritional foods, should they need?
Who stole more from their country, Castro or Duvalier?
And lastly, why are you afraid to go Cuba, and see for yourself?
