Teach your kids chess from an early age. Then they would turn into stable minded grandmasters like erm...Bobby Fischer. 😉

There's no mention of what sort of game it was. Different games obviously require different thought processes and as such the experiment falls far short of any decent assessment of the effect of computer games on children's development.

Having said this, I agree that it seems likely that some games will stimulate very little brain development.

I think the worst offender would be Bible Adventures for the NES.

Yes, to quote the article:
'...it was found that the computer game only stimulated activity in the parts of the brain associated with vision and movement.

In contrast, arithmetic stimulated brain activity in both the left and right hemispheres of the frontal lobe - the area of the brain most associated with learning, memory and emotion.'

Anyone who has played any of the Myst games will know that this doesn't apply to all games.

I once ate a handful of mushrooms and believed that I grew twice my size. I then started picking up pennies off the ground thinking that if I collected 100 of them I would get an extra chance at life. F-cking Mario. You lied to me! You and your whole stereotypical family!

Which suggests the point that Starrman raised. It all depends on the type of games used in the research.

Would be better if we knew what games were used in the research that Tracy McVeigh wrote about.

I will have a search around.

I don't agree with a global statement like that. I played video games alot since the 4th grade and have turned out to be a fairly intelligent guy. (Arguable) I have found that in the corporate environment I think faster on my feet than others, I can't trace it back to video games by many adventure games help with problem solving skills and creativity. (My humble opinion)

Downside: I have found that I fight an addiction to video games and I was a bit of an intravert as a youngster. I can spend far too much time playing on the computer and it is something I wrestle with daily.

I found the article to be misleading. Do we really expect a video game to stimulate the brain in the same way as doing math problems?

If the brain ends up 'stunted', it is probably because not enough time was spent on development (like doing math problems), rather than a direct result of playing video games.

I assume that is what your "problem" was?

Anyway. You are a true shit. Even woolburger didn't time me out while I went to rome.
Good!

I want you to know that I really enjoyed pushing the 'Claim Win' button and forfeiting your sorry arse.

That's good. At least you show your coward ass for what it is..

Seriously. It was doomed to a "Draw" anyway. But I love giving cowards a bad time. snark.

BTW

I'll give you your silly little "chimp victory" any time compared to my visit to Roma and the wandering amongst the pilgrams that i did last week. When were you last in Rome?
