Anybody been down this joyful road? I'm dating a girl I've known since fifth grade. I know her parents, we've stayed in touch, both crossed the '40' threshold, and tomorrow morning, I'm supposed to meet her girls. They're 7 and 8. I'm having a range of sensations - chest pains, tunnel vision, cold sweats, uncontrollable shaking, a feeling of dread, extreme anxiety, and a sense that with one quick pitch off the balcony of my 19th floor apartment it could all be over quickly and painlessly, after a few terrifying seconds.

Thoughts? Little help? Spare ticket to some African hellhole?

I think I would rather go back to Saigon 1968
than do what you're going to do tomorrow. 🙂

Bring plenty of ammo Sgt.

and a few claymores.

I keep looking around for a sinkhole to jump into. A train or bus to step in front of.

Well, the woman you are dating should help you if she wants you to succeed. It's probably too late to ask her for something you could buy that you could do together that they would enjoy, like finger painting or play doh, but maybe they could bring something to do. Think about taking them to a park or zoo or nature trail. If you do have time, maybe buy a age-appropriate board game you can all play.

Did she hold that ceremony where all your clothes
and belongings were burnt on the front lawn?

No, no, much more civilized than that. Although once she made up her mind, she did not dally.

I have no sympathy for you. You knew this day was coming from before the first date. Now it is almost too late.

Didn't you and your wife just move and get a house recently?

Didn't you two just go on some kind of vacation?

Did she finally get sick of sharing the bed with the Debate Forum?

EDIT: I guess you'll have to update your profile. You might start by deleting "Happy husband to a lovely woman." 😉

I have. The kids turned out to be disrespectful little brats. That is a good indication that the mother is the same way no matter how much she fakes that she cares about you. If that is the case run away and don't look back. If the kids have manners and treat people with respect you might have a keeper.

I don't understand why you are freaking out so soon. At least there are only 2 of them. It could be worse.
