@suzianne saidI’ve been looking for an opportunity to point this out.
Like the Capitol police officers after the coup attempt on Jan.6? Most of those on the right don't care about them at all.
@sh76 saidA question born of American ignorance and American arrogance.
These and many other countries have either dropped all COVID restrictions or greatly loosened them, all while the Omicron surge is either still near its apex or only partially down the mountain.
For the Covidians who believe that government restrictions are warranted to (futilely) try to stop Omicron, why do you think European opinion has suddenly abandoned your way of thinking?
Not a taunt. Really. Just a question.
In the Netherlands, at least, the government has loosened some of the strictest restrictions, but kept a lot of the others. For instance, you're still required to show proof of vaccination - full, not a single one! - or recent(!) recovery or a clear test, to enter many venues; you're still required to wear a mask in shops, and in places like chess venues, until you sit down behind the board; there are still restrictions on how late restaurants can be open; and so on.
Our government has now decided that proofs of double vaccination are only valid for six months, and only triple will, for the time being, remain valid indefinitely.
Far more people here are vaccinated than in your backward, libertarian, magahatter cesspit. Sure, we too have our wappies, but they're a distinct minority, not people to be taken seriously. We're even vaccinating school children, now. Aren't you shocked and disgusted?
To sum up: our countries can loosen Covid restrictions because the ones we still have work, people by and large abide with them, most of us are fully vaccinated, and therefore, not despite or regardless of the previously stricter restrictions, the worst is over for now.
None of that is the case in the USA, or even the UK.
@vivify saidOoh, I didn't even take our health care systems into consideration! I take it for granted so much that I wouldn't be paying 10.000 euro a night even if I were to get ill - it's so obvious to me that the government will provide effective health care for its people - that it never crossed my mind that there are places so backwards that they could pay for that but refuse to.
https://www.opb.org/article/2022/02/02/take-back-life-more-nations-ease-coronavirus-restrictions/the World Health Organization this week said some countries can now consider carefully relaxing the rules if they have high immunity rates, their health care systems are strong and the epidemiological trends are going in the right direction....[text shortened]... the WHO said nations more responsible with Covid and healthcare than the U.S. can ease restrictions.
But they're right, of course. If you won't heal poor, working-class people when they get ill, and your economy largely depends on the exploitation of the working class (hello, Jeff Bezos... ), obviously you have to resort to draconian measures to stop the rabble from infecting the rest of the rabble.

THE CDC IS YOUR SOURCE? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@shallow-blue saidThe mask thing was part of their downfall, they over estimated their ability to make stuff up. Masks only work given some specific conditions and standards. Given ideal conditions and if the mask is manufactured to specific standards they're next to useless, but the way the average person uses them they're worse than useless, they do more harm than good.

First up it needs to be fit tested, i.e. it needs to seal all around and this needs to be tested with an aromatic spray, NO FACIAL HAIR, this would need to be mandated along with the mask, clean shaven, all beards gone and a maximum stubble length determined and policed, that includes you suzi.
Next you put it on then you don't touch it, no fidgeting lifting it up and down, for it to be effective you must not take it off even for a game of chess. If you do start playing with it, it will need to be replaced.
The list goes on, but the average person sees through it, and like the boy who cried wolf too many times peoples trust begins to waver, the stories are harder to prop up.
And that BS where you sit down it's safe to take your mask off, beyond ridiculous. And curfews as if the virus only operates at certain times. Trust in the 'authorities' is plummeting and that's a good thing, long over due.
@shallow-blue saidSure, sure, but are you able to

Your rhetoric is inexcusable.
Everybody is going to get covid. It is not a question of if, but when. Your hero Fauci even said so.
