What about in Pakistan, is it about the same percentage?

For that matter, I wonder what percentage of cousin marriages are found in Indian/Middle Eastern immigrants? I bet it's pretty high too. Anybody claim to know?
How far do we have to go back in English history before marrying your first cousin wasn't even thought to be something worth commenting on?

You're fond of telling people to stay on topic, xanthos, so let me do the same.
Nobody cares if it was once no big deal, the fact is TODAY it is viewed with disgust because it is indeed considered incest, and known to produce offspring that have a huge problem with birth defects and retardation.
That clear?

WHAT THE HELL??? Man you are full of it. It most certainly is considered improper and incestuous, at least in the western world.
Oh come on now, those are just guidelines... gray areas if you will... plus, its only 'restricted' in 31 US states and not outright banned.... I believe that you will find that marriage between first cousins is legal in England and Canada.

Plus, if she's not good enough for her family, she certainly isn't good enough for mine.

Actually the overwhelming majority of offspring from a first cousin partnership will not have any problems at all.

And my point was indeed on topic because it shows that the mental retardation certainly isn't as howardgee is claiming (or else everyone would have been retarded up to 100 years ago).

as pointed out earlier, the children of first cousin marriages have an enormously high chance of birth defects and retardation compared to those of people not related to each other.

In the US, most of the states that allow first cousin marriages require that they not be capable of having children, or make them undergo counseling before granting a marriage license. It is specifically illegal in about a third of the country. Even in the states where it is allowed, it's almost never done, and shunned as being unnatural.

Oh really? Would you mind providing evidence of that?

Simple thing is, is that the only fact coward could come up with was that there are Pakistani inbred. Just like there are alot in the English race. And he could not tie it in any way to them being retarded suicide bombers as he originally stated. Being left, right, conservative or whatever, does not get in the way of that stupid idea being a racist one.
This post reads like gobbledegook. No wonder considering its author and his place of origin.

Everything I find says the difference is 5-7% for cousins vs. 4-6% overall or similar.

Xanthos is playing games with the numbers......birth defects are between 2-3% between unrelated people......they are indeed about 5-7% between cousins.
That's an increase of around 100%. Pretty significant, I'd say.

What study are you citing? It depends what you call a birth defect you see.

I'll pay that one. Its good to have a mental picture that matches up the rhetoric of an out of touch, slightly befuddled wowser, trying hard but failing to come to terms with the modern world, all the while hoping things will just go back to the way things were when Doris Day was the queen of Hollywood, and Rock Hudson was only known for his manly ways.

If one were to say that they lost the war due to their inbred stupefaction, what sort of comment would that be? Surely the insecurity displ ned in on themselves while pappy was enjoying the consolation of their nanny down on the farm?
Yeah, everything you stated was pretty much stereotypical, uneducated, racially-tinged bigotry. Don't you agree? What's your point? There was slave/master 'breeding', but all that produced was a "mulatto", and probably an intelligent one, not a suicide bomber......

By the way, "mulatto" isn't used anymore as many blacks and whites inter-marry these days, so it is considered offensive; I only used it in the context that it was used in the 19th century.

Didn't England send its 'inbreds' to Australia to colonize the continent?...therefore, today is the result of 200+ years of experience?....

New message: Yo, Kmart87, I guess inbreeding does mess with one's ability when it comes to typing out replies....so, you were correct...😉

There is a higher chance of hereditary defects, but not of retardedness, not as high as claimed anyway.

As to the laws in the US:

Twenty-four states prohibit marriages between first cousins. Six states allow first cousin marriage under certain circumstances, and North Carolina allows first cousin marriage but prohibits double-cousin marriage. Twenty states and the District of Columbia allow cousin marriage.
