If you want to compare Obama to other US presidents, Cheney isn't part of that.

Most Presidents in recent memory have significantly ignored laws they didn't favor, in some cases attempting to repeal or modify them. Other tactics include failure to enforce, executive order contrary to law. Unlawful use of federal agencies for partisan ends.

Obama seems near the top on all of those counts.
So the problem lies not with Obama, but with the office of President?

I just heard "Convenient: IRS Has 'Lost' Two Years of Lois Lerner's Emails"
It seems to me that if the government was very trustworthy, this would
never happen. It is starting to seem there are no one there that is
trustworthy.

it goes beyond the office.

It was Joseph de Maistre who wrote in 1811 "Every nation gets the government it deserves."

This may be true, really, only for democracies. But supposedly, the US is one.

Here's a list of the number of executive orders issued:

Obama seems to have issued relatively few compared to 20th Century standards.

For the Progressive, a law is either a weapon to be used against an adversary, or an obstacle to be ignored.

It is obvious that Obama only respects the rule of Obama.

Depends which law you have in mind. Americans of any persuasion are not known for tolerating any legal restraint on their selfish interests. Try charging an American with war crimes for example and see how you get on. What Americans like to do is to impose laws that other countries have to abide by. On the whole, Obama is just a typical, common or garden ex ...[text shortened]... erican president and probably a little bit less appalling than his predecessors Bush and Cheney.
I love how you single out Americans.

If the truth be known, human nature seeks power over others. Therefore, the tendency is to create laws to control people, and bend and break laws that infringe what you wish to do. That is why despotic regimes are undesirable.

Now that America has been "transformed" into a collectivist centralized state, they resemble a despotic regime more than ever before.
